I guess I’m going to be against the grain on this one...The aroma is some light bourbon barrel and alcohol--and not much else. Pretty weak aroma overall. Oily black body with no head. The palate is medium with very little carbonation. Warm caramel malts in the first sip with lots of bourbon flavor and alcohol presence. Nothing else sticks out to me at all. Too much bourbon for my liking, and too one dimensional as well. IrishBoy (2726), Bakersfield, California, USA

Nose of bourbon, crabapples, caramel, and vanilla; lightly hazed dark brown with a few bubbles around the sides; Flavor of oak, bourbon, caramel, and lots of vanilla! Reminds me of my favorite Valley Brew Effingud! Odeed (1680), Bakersfield, California, USA

Aroma, wheat, roasted notes, woody, some vanilla, thick sweetness in the nose. Flavor, some wheat, caramel, and molasses, lead to some roated notes and sweet fruity tones. Lots of oaky, bourbon, vanilla can be found, very smooth and thick. Pretty tasty. Driftwood6 (214), USA

Maybe a little strong in the bourbon flavor, but overall an outstanding beer. Would actually like to try their triplebock without the barrel aging. Beerlando (2353), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Hand bottle from BBB63. Thanks Mike! December 2007 vintage, 11% ABV. Pours a hazy, dark chocolate brown body with a small rim of clear bubbles. No lacing noted, but the beer leaves thick, full sheet like legs on the glass, foreshadowing what will ultimately be a full, viscous mouthfeel. The aroma shows intense bourbon notes over an ultra-rich malt base of chocolate, nougat, and faint notes of smoked dark fruits. The flavor s equally huge, with waves of velvety nougat and dark chocolate blending perfectly with aged bourbon and oak. The thick, nearly full body is lightly carbonated, which works incredibly well in a big, bourbon barrel aged beer. Finishes sweet and lightly boozy, with just enough alcoholic heat to let you know it means business. Awesome brew. Very similar to Barley John’s Dark Knight. I want more right now! Aroma of whiskey oak, rich toasted biscuity malt, toffee, light dose of dark fruit, subtle smoke, subtle alcohol. Same flavor. Rich. Full body, low carbonation, viscous. Great after dinner brew. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Courtesy Beerlando!!! Pours the darkest brown I have seen to date, minimal carbonation. Aroma is explosive. This is an opus of complexity, wave after wave of aromas are coming forth. Bourbon, vanilla, dates, molasses, alder. The flavor is initially sweet, but merges into a warming, roasted finish.
