marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Sep 21, 2009 On tap at the brewery. This orange ale poured with a rich beige head and tangy oak aroma. This is a blend of Curvana and Jax Double IPA. It tastes mostly like a DIPA with some sour oak notes. There is a very nice malt flavor with a little alcohol. xnoxhatex (1305), Grand Rapids/Chicago, Michigan, USA Aug 31, 2009 On tap at the Livery. Cloudy orange with creamy, medium off white head. Aroma is citrus and grapefruit, dirty, sweeter, bourbon. Flavor is bourbon, lots of green hops, sweeter caramel, a little alc. Medium body and creamy head. Nice. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Aug 22, 2009 On tap at the Livery and served in a snifter. Cloudy dark orange/amber pour with a thin, short-lived head of light beige foam. Lots of lace. The aroma included a ton of fresh citrus, caramel, oak, and also some afterthoughts of sour fruit. The flavor had a solid malty caramel backbone followed by bitter grapefruit, oranges, dark fruit skins, dry oak, and a hint of white wine. Starts fairly sweet but has a nice, dry finish...especially for a high gravity beer. Full-bodied, but highly drinkable. Light carbonation. Very nice. Almost no trace of the 10.5% ABV. Really nice. pantanap (1322), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 13, 2009 gtmw09...poured a cloudy medium reddish brown with a medium off-white head...aroma had some woodiness along with some sweet tropical and floral hops... flavors were pretty similar and inviting all-around. i thought this was pretty nice. Sampled at GTMW 2009 (Madison, WI). Pours a decent hazed amber, decent offwhite head that laces well and stays at a thick film. Aromas are belgian yeast covered up by some good fruit and good floral hopping. Initial is florals, mellow belgian yeast giving way to dominant fruit and liberal American hops. Very fruity: apple, pear, citrus fruits. Tartness comes onto the palate lighter but seems covered up by a good dose of hopping. A bit strong overall with a fruity lightly bitter finish. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jan 24, 2009 On tap at FoBAB. Poured near clear medium caramel with a short cap of beige head. The aroma was sweet and hoppy with grapefruit backed by caramel.. a touch of oak and bourbon surrounded as well.. quite nice. The flavor didn’t hold up as well.. spicy bourbon and sour oak laced throughout with toffee and pale malts at the core.. scratchy, oaky bitterness rode out the finish, joined by a hint of tobacco.. decent components, but they did not play very well together. Medium-bodied and sour overall on the palate with a sharp, bitter, grainy final impression after the swallow. tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Dec 12, 2008 FoBAB 08. Hazy amber with beige head. Juicy hops. Really juicy hops. With just a bit of oak. Medium body with high carbonation and a dry oaky finish. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Nov 28, 2008 FoBAB 2008, Chicago: This poured a hazy, deep amber body with a small bubbly head. It had a sharp aroma of old grassy hops supported by whiskey, oak, and caramel. It had a strong taste of alcohol, flaming caramel, a grassy hop bitterness, and an off sourness. Seems a bit confused.
