OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Apr 29, 2007 Growler at DLD - Poured dark amber with a short tan head and some lace. Aromas of pine and floral hops. Flavor of grapefruit, pine, caramel, and some yeast. Finished fairly dry. BBB63 (4198), La Porte, Indiana, USA Feb 16, 2006 English Dark IPA Sampled at the brewery in a pint glass: Rich dark coppery hue with a small but lasting frothy head and very good lace. The aroma has a combination of floral nocle hope and a little pine character. Additionally I discovered some apple, grapefruit, sea salt, and dusty esters. The taste is smooth earthy yeast with equal mild bitterness. A base of sweet malt is in the background along with a acidic fruit tone which dances around the edge of the palate. A mild chalky and lingering grassy aftertaste finishes it off. The feel is smooth and soft, moderately carbonated. Overall, a bit different from your standard classic IPA but a nice near session brew. A classic pint mixer with the dry stout.
