sneagrams3 (1342), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 11, 2008 Tasted 4/27/08. 6oz sample from the brewpub. Hazy with a golden hue. Nice crisp hop nose. Citrus and grapefruit aromas. Medium bodied and sticky. Lotta citrus with an odd bitterness. Big and good. Tart and bitter with a dry finish. Very nice. alexanderj (1194), Roanoke, Virginia, USA May 3, 2008 Sample at The Livery. Amber in color, not much head. Aroma of earth, caramel, flowers and toasted malt. Flavor was slightly strange; it reminded me of a combo of corn chips and flowers. Despite it being a little weird I actually thought it was ok tasting. tjthresh (1248), LaPorte, Indiana and Belton, Missouri, USA Dec 28, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy light amber with a bit of off white head. Aromas of grass and apricot. Lots of grassy hop flavor. Thin and dry. High carbonation. Average. The Livery was pretty busy when we arrived just after opening. I spent some time examining the board and eventually decided upon this gem. I’d seen it a few months ago at the GTMW but never got around to trying it. I wish I had; it would have been perfect for the heat. It’s better than your average pale ale but didn’t blow me away. Still it was a great starter.
Aroma / Appearance - The hazy bronze body had just a little bit of lacing. Wheat, noble hops and grain form a simple clean impression that gets the job done than gets out of the way. You aren’t going to linger over this one as everything is obvious from the start.
Flavor / Palate - Caramel, chocolate and peaches play against the bitterness that first hits the mouth. The fluid presence proceeds to coat every surface before a dry harsh aftertaste wraps things up. The hoppiness comes in the form of pine resin. I found this to a be little too agressive to drink too many of but then again how often do you find a pale ale that is too hoppy?
