Commercial Description:
A "wee heavy" and tawny in color. This scotch-style ale, named after the first dam site in Folsom, has a medium malty/fruity character with a hint of chocolate. It's a full bodied/strong ale that is well balanced with a soft, hoppy flavor that ends with a long warming finish.

Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Nose is lite brown sugar and malt. Same in the flavor. Decent, but just too mild in both nose and flavor.

On tap and the Raley Field Brewfest in West Sacramento, CA. Malt flavor with a bit of smoke flavor. Seemed a bit light-bodied and a little lacking in flavor. Not really a good example of a typical scotch ale.

Sampled at Raley Field Brewfest. Poured dark amber, malty, metalic, hoppy, grainy, burnt sugar, little dark fruits.

Mild herbal notes with some bready malt. Soft fruit and bread notes on the palate. Mildly grainy and soft finish.

At NorCal Brewers Guild Festival at Raley Field. Strong malt aroma, arguably with some light smokiness. Deep reddish amber color with a faint beige head. Starts like a strong brown ale - very malty - goes a bit gritty and thin - maybe there isn’t any smokiness - but it’s a really good brown.

6 ounce sample tasted at the Fair Oaks Brewfest. Musty, funky, caramelly aroma with very minute peaty aroma. Not overly assertive, though. Mahogany body with an off-white head and nice lacing. Overcarbonated, sweet, caramel sticky malt flavors present. Finishes with hoppy grapefruit flavors. Lacks the typical peat and scotch flavors I expect.

Draft at San Diego Brewing Co. Pretty decent stuff. I didn’t really know what to expect. Not as "heavy" as some Wee Heavys. Sweet and fruity on the nose. The flavor came out a bit more malty with some decent hops for a nice finish. Not bad. Looking forward to maybe trying another from this brewery.
