| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 11, 2009 On tap at Rue Cler, Durham. As Ethan said, it was called Sweet Josie Brown. Nice pour, darker and thicker than I’d expected and the head and retention were nice. A little bit of maple and sugar in the nose, a frosting on the fairly standard malt aroma as it were. Body was decent, prickly carbonation too, and there was almost a slight barrel quality to the beer, which was quickly dissolved in the pleasantly dry, at times almost chalky finish. Not bad. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 6, 2009 On draught at the High Country Beer Fest, this pours murky mahogany with an eggshell head. Malt and doughy nose. Sweet malt throughout, and hints at brown sugar in the mid-palate. This is contrasted in turn by a decently bitter back. Such a stark contrast makes for a slightly hollow mouthfeel. Smooth drinkability with a slick texture, it feels a little devoid of substance. A decent brown, just not quite up to the next level yet.
