Commercial Description:
Shotgun Betty is a sexy, tough cowgirl who is always armed and dangerous. Don’t be fooled by her good looks, she will have you for an appetizer! That’s why we picked her to represent our Hefeweizen. Shotgun Betty is a wheat beer with a rich, banana-clove nose and refreshing dry finish. Sound good? Try one, But beware, once Betty gets a hold of you there is no escape.

Dark orange pour with medium white head that was long lasting. Citrus aroma with some malts and bread. Flavor is somewhat spicy with malty aftertaste. Not too bad.

Sampled on draft at the brewery. Pours a hazy orange color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is very fruity and citrus with some bready notes. Taste is citrus and other fruit notes, bread and spice. A bit chalky. Medium bodied. Straightforward hefe but pleasant and well made.

On draught at the High Country Beer Fest, this pours murky brown with a wispy head that leaves light lace. The nose is of distinct banana and cloves. Lots of refreshing banana in the flavor, complimented by a spiced finish. The carbonation is zesty, and makes for a cleansing palate, albeit a touch thin for the style. Speaking of style, although currently categorized as a wheat ale, trust me that this is the pure definition of a German Hefeweizen. It is refreshing and perfect for summer. Nice job!

Draft at Buffalo Wild Wings in F-ville. A classic, well-made hefe leaning towards citrus more than banana. Really cloudy yellow/orange color with a tall white head. Bold aroma of bananas and doughy yeasty. Crisper carbonation than some hefes leaves the mouth feeling clean and refreshed. The flavors aren’t particularly strong, just well balanced citrus and spice making this a great session beer. The finish is a touch tart.

I have to admit, I really don’t like the marketing materials (labels, etc.) from this new brewery and was dubious. Low expectations. SURPRISE! Tasty beer! Strong apple flavors, some banana and clove. Nice yeast. Dry, crisp finish. I will likely drink more of this local treat over the summer.

At World Beer Festival in Raleigh NC this Wheat Ale poured more like a white ale - very cloudy whiteish color with a white head. Aroma of banana, biscuit and spice. Taste of faint banana (cross between an American Hefe and German Hefe) and spice... bready after taste. Decent refreshing brew. Would like to try this one again to see how much I enjoy in a little bit larger quantity.
