Commercial Description:
Long Ireland’s first release. This beer is old world Irish ale; this isn’t designed to be an Irish Red. It’s brewed with ingredients based on how beer was brewed a few hundred years ago in Ireland. Since Ireland is an island, ingredients weren’t always readily available. The Irish brewers used ingredients that they were able to get locally. This beer is made with 4 different malts and a big serving of honey and oats that give it a sweet but smooth flavor. Its 5% a.b.v. And 20 I.b.u.’s.

Growler filled and consumed the same day. Pours a mostly clear transparent brown with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left very little lace. Mild aroma of malt and roasted nuts. The flavor is a bit more pronounced than the aroma with malt and some honey sweetness which holds on through the finish. No problems here.

Pours brownish red with a tan head. Smells of sweet malt, some floral hints, caramel. Tastes of caramel and sweet with some rosey hints on the finish.

Deep amber beer. The nose is quite nutty and sweet with a fairly prominent crystal malt character. Fairly chewy but not underattenuated. Sweet and simple. It’s fairly typical for the style, but it’s well-made.

I tried this beer on tap at Stony Brook Beverage from their Growler Bar and think I have found my new favorite. The honey warms the pallet on the way down and the overall impression is fantastic. I only can hope it never gets compared to Killians, because that would be an injustice to such a fine beer as this one!

Growler fill from Big Z - lightly hazy, reddish copper ale - very fine carbonation that fails to kick up a head (just a ring of fizz around the edges) - somewhat estery aroma, with medium sweet caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, and a toasted maltiness - low carbonation, medium body - the flavor starts out with sweet toffee and caramel, followed by some fruity esters - a tangy character that borders on acidity develops through the middle, as does a mild bitterness - nutty finish, with some lingering smooth maltiness - decent and quite sessionable, but probably not something I would buy again.
