On tap at Capones. Poured a medium and hazy golden color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of floral hops, citrus, toasty, and some pine. Tastes of citrus, the same floralness, pine, and some caramel. Lacing left on the glass.

Bottle sampled on 7/26/09: Pours a transparent deep golden with a frothy well-lacing white head. Aroma of fresh grassy piny hops and sweet pale maltiness. Starts with good fullness and sweet lightly caramely malts with a fresh grapefruity resiny hop flavor before a drier bittersweet crisp finish. A pretty well-balanced and enjoyable double IPA.

My Bottom Line:
This amiable Double IPA offers lots of citrusy and wooden hop aromatics which segue into a light alcohol heat and a gripping resinous bitterness, as honeyed malts smoothly lay the foundations for further gulps.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam sticks to the top of the hazy blond golden.
-The prickly bubbling leads to higher drinkability.
-I was prepared for a sipper, but this is very drinkable.
-The hop personality is striking and complex, delving into orangey, citrusy, coniferous, and sandy realms.

From bottles and from the tap at the brewery tasting room.

Bottle. Pale amber gold beer with a thin white head. The aroma is lovely. Rich bright tropical citrus aroma. Light sweet honeyish aroma. A bit of light tropical mango and pineapple. It is very bright and fresh smelling. Flavour is soft and fruity. Fairly creamy texture with a rich fruity hoppiness. Moderate bitterness. Lovely and hoppy with a light moderate bitterness. Lovely beer.

Filtered. Clear honey orange. Citrus and candy sugar nose - sugared honey and sweet pine resin. Texture is lightly oil, body is medium to light. Overly sweet sugared hop oils dominate. Thankfully there’s little malt distraction but the overt sweetness is difficult to get past.
