Crusty nose of crackers, burnt sugar, paprika(?), and clove. Flavor is boozy for an alt, thicker bodied, too. Nice stuff is spicey, filling, and a bit wintery. Nuts abound, and sweetness, and goodness. Grassy/peppery/lagery hop flavors linger. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA

Expressive nose, with hints of graham crackers, vanilla, caramel, toffee and whipped cream. Flavor brings a rich blend of malts with notes of brandy sprinkled fruit cake, nutmeg and caramel. The body is rich and creamy. A very good beer. JPDIPSO (4904), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 12, 2005 Copper color with a smaller ecru head. Full bodied with enough life to lift it off the palate. First aroma out of the bottle gave the impression of a waldorf salad, with blue cheese and pears. Later, nuts and marzipan and light brandied fruit cake. Flavors rich malty and full. Just enough bitterness to keep the sweetness in check. This get better the longer it sets an relaxes. Malt dances in and out with mild fruit, and herbal hops. Thanks for the two awesome alts Barry. A style I’ve always appreciated, but hard to come by. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 31, 2005 I am not very familiar with the style, but was very pleased by the product. Hard for me to describe but the best word I can think of is smooth. Very full of flavor, and darker than I had expected. I was shocked to find that the beer was 7.2% after tasting it! The brew is just THAT smooth. I may be ranking this higher than it deserves, for not being familiar with Altbier, but I highly reccommend it and am looking forward to trying other altbier’s in the future! timetrvlr (8), milford, Connecticut, USA does not count | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 27, 2005 good head and nice color with a full mouth and desirable aftertaste though a bit muddy. very enjoyable
