The nose on this beer is a deliciously enticing blend of light brown suga, honey and maple syrup, overlaid on a solid floral hop and caramel malt foundation. Hops come to the forefront in the taste, but caramel malt is evident as well, along with subtle flavors of almond and vanilla.
A very pleasant offering from this Vermont brewery rudolf (1782), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Nicely done, with a pleasant sweetness to boot. Rich amber pour. Good use of malts provides a mellow center with just the right minor touch of hops. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Nov 27, 2004 Mild sweet aroma with a gentle hoppiness and perhaps a hint of diacetyl. Clear copper-amber with small white ead that recedes to very thin cover. Sweet buttery flavour up front with a touch of roasty bitterness and hints of alcohol. Slightly viscous mouthfeel. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 24, 2004 Clear and bright amber copper color; thin, dark ivory cap fades off quickly, sparce lacing in spots, yet keeps a good collaring the whole glass down.
Aroma is tame with a roasted grainy husk, buttered crispness floating on top of the roast with a small sensation of starfruit and red apple playing underneath.
Flavors meld nicely from what the smell leads to, but just not in any real style or girth. Tame and milding roasty grain, slightly sweet malting, floral hop notes back the end with an almost smokened buttery burntness lending a nearly coffee-like sense. More so of a weak coffee bean thing. Definately keeps a fairly decent roasty edge throughout but nothing too heavy as it should be for a Wee Heavy.
Feel is too; tame and mild; crisp, roasty, lighter medium body with a silky smoothness to it, maintaining a good drinkability. Finishes with a lingering roasty edge. Not bad, could be better could be worse. Nothing spectacular, but respectable and sessionable. GonZoBeeR (2163), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 3, 2004 Appearance: clear, bright amber, near-crimson color, with a slight, short, fuzzy of-white head.
Aroma: faint, flat, but a bit sweet.
Taste: malt is huge here, and announces itself right off on the palate, bold, yet not boisterous, and never sweet, despite this "brewed with honey" business. Interesting stuff, really, for it calls itself a "winter ale" on the label, yet is acknowledged as a Scotch Ale here, with which I’d concur. The honey never really figures much...no, wait, I caught some! Yeah, it’s really more of a minor undercurrent in the flavoring. The body is assuredly medium, maybe more, with barely a touch of hops, and major malt all the way through the brew.
A perfectly respectable winter beer, nice little entry from these guys, cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 11, 2004 Overall a very good beer, definitely for the winter months. Is lacking in spiciness, richness and texture that i would expect in a winter brew, but a nice drink nonetheless.
