Some caramel malt and the same grassy, straw hop bitterness on the finish that they had in the pilsner and the pale ale. Had a rather smooth, almost silky character that one doesn’t usually find in an Oktoberfest, but otherwise, not a very strong examle of the style. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 28, 2008 Draught at the brewpub. Reddish-brown color with a small, quickly dissipating head that leaves some foam settled around the glass. The aroma was initially quite metallic, but mellowed into a slight caramelized toasty maltiness after awhile. The flavor has some caramel and light tea going on. Pretty clean, just a little sweet, and has a little too much carbonation. Liked the malty flavor, but the hard mineral-metal aspect was a little weird. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA

Second tasting about about a year later. Even better the second time around. LGBrewing has definitely improved. AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/20 | Dec 5, 2005 It was weak for an oktoberfest. Nice red/brown color. Mild sweet malty flavor. Medium bodied. Lacking. CaptKirk (175), Hephzibah, Georgia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 29, 2005 I thought this was weak for an Octoberfest beer. Lighter in color then Killians. Started well, but finished to bitter for my taste. Not a bad sample, but would not order a pint NormanBlunt (4), USA does not count | 1.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 2/5 | 1/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Oct 31, 2005 If this was marketed as a ’marzen’ then trades descriptions laws would be breached. Despite very clean appearance (common to all LGBC beers) unpleasant after-taste and chemicals in the product produced a light-headedness the following day after only 2 pints!!!
