kosko20 (302), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Nov 1, 2009 A very solid beer. Pours a dark mahogany with medium brown head. Aroma is lovely of raisins, chocolate, candied sugar. Flavor is mildly sweet. Palate is creamy, thick, lush, just awesome. Loved it and glad I have another :) altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Oct 31, 2009 Bottle from De Molen. Shared it with two friends from the bottle in train to Utrecht. Dark brown body. Really sweet and malty nose with some sour notes. Taste of fruits, sugar and malts. Notes of wood. Really enjoyable and great bottle to share. (This was consumed after a beer festival--so notes dodgy at this point.) BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Oct 29, 2009 On tap. Really nice. Nose is not that strong but present. Pours a deep, rich brown with a small tan head. The flavor blend is really fine - sweet fruit blends. Not a raisin fan but this works for me. Also a hint of spice. Mouthfeel is not really notable. I recommend. MrBunn (1518), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 20, 2009 Bottle with many thanks to gorditoabd. Pours a dingy leathery brown with a couple of fingers of fizzy/frothy head. Aromas are interesting and I totally had this one pegged incorrectly... I would have guessed it was light citrusy... it is dark and brooding. The sour funk from the brett is the first thing that I pick up and it surprised me. (I really should read labels.) Brown sugar and dark pit fruit are also present in the nose. Flavor is an odd mix of the sweet brown sugar and prune/plum presence mixed with just a touch of tartness from the brett. I would love to see how this ages out to check whether it develops more funkiness. Then again, it’s darn fine now, too. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Oct 17, 2009 In the bomber bottle from Downtown Johnny Brown’s in San Diego. 2008 version. Cloudy reddish black with an ivory head of some staying power. This might be my favorite from this brewer. Thick meaty masculine beer. Mincemeat pie in a bottle. Remarkable nuttiness that emerges past the dark fruits. A splash of cinnamon? There could be anything in this. jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 14, 2009 (draft). Black color. Small tan head. Very light malt and alcohol aromas. Sweet malt and wood flavors. Avg duration. Alcohol finish with very light bitterness. Slick texture. Moderate carbonation. Spare lacing. dionysus (95), Arizona, USA Oct 13, 2009 I’ve always had a fondness for Lost Abbey, and this just shows why. Bottle pours murky brown with a healthy beige colored head. Huge nose! Aroma shows raisins, toffee, molasses, vanilla, rosemary, leather and tart raspberry. All this and more follows through into the flavor showing additonal notes of almonds, cigar ash, and a touch of alc. Body is full and well integrated. Bravo. jredmond (1015), New Jersey, USA Oct 12, 2009 Updated: Oct 24, 2009Bottle split with Pat. The bottle reads 10% abv. Pours a dark murky brown with a small brown head. Aroma is sweet fruit, raisins, and malt. The flavor starts as a belgian ale, and ends with a roasty flavor accompanied by notes of raisins, clove, and vanilla. An amazing brew.
