Pours a ruby brown color with a small head and spotty lacing. Smell is chocolate, raisin, rosemary, the slightest funk, alcohol and dark fruit. Taste is similar with lots of yeasty chocolate flavor, rosemary, raisins, and hardly any barnyard or funk flavors. The alcohol was actually really well hidden in the taste. A very interesting beer that I can only really describe as savory. I wish I has cooked something up with rosemary prior to cracking this one open. Praetorian (86), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Dark brown in color with an average sized, light brown head with minimal-no lacing. The aroma is of yeast and rasins with a hint of chocolate. The flavor is of dark fruits and brandy with notes of coffee grounds and chocolate. Starts somewhat sweet and finishes bitter. The texture is syrupy. The second half of the bottle was much yeastier than the first; watch out for the dregs. Overall i’d say its a very enjoyable, well balanced beer with a very complex and aggressive flavor. Good, but not quite my style. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 5, 2008 Updated: Sep 27, 2008Wow, haven’t rated this beauty. Pour is a very dark brown with a perfectly forming head of a very light tan. The head is airy, frothy, well developed and very pure and authentic...very Belgian. Perfect appearance because it looks Belgian. Nose is very expressive and lively and mainly shows the spicing (ginger, pumpkin, allspice), but it also hints of raisins, dark fruits, wildness and Belgian yeast. Flavor is very well balanced with all the elements working well together. Spicing is still the dominant factor, but the flavor still gives hints of raisins, dark fruits, herbs and yeast. Like it quite a bit, but it has aged slow. RERATE!!!!!!! 2008 Batch. Incredible improvement on an already great beer. This new batch is really, really terrific. Aroma of raisins, mint (menthol), molasses, alcohol, and pitted fruit. Taste is very yeasty and malty with alcohol and raisins. Mouthfeel is syrupy with light bubbles. Had this at Lost Abbey recently (early January 09), the brett has really come along and it is getting funky and sour...very cool beer. Zinister (1207), Houston, Texas, USA

Caramel, raisins, dark fruits and syrup on the nose. Layered flavors of the same, with some fruitness and that nice Brett character mixed in as well. Very enjoyable beer than got better as it warmed in the Houston night. Thanks Bill, great beer. holdenn (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 14, 2008 Batch 2: 750 ml bottle on the train to Flossmoor Station. Pours a creamy beige head on a brown raisin body. Rich malty caramel toffee aromas with cherries, Belgian yeast, citrus, candied sugars, coriander, spices and surprisingly sour. Lively carbonation. Belgian funked flavors with a strong sourness. Cherries, brown sugar, rich malts, lots of dark fruits, figs, and earthy flavors that work together so well. Sour cherries and bakers chocolate in the finish. No noticeable alcohol. So tasty and fun to drink. TeamTrappist (417), jericho, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2008 750ml Bottle. Poured a deep brown with a thin beige head. The nose had a strong raisin and sweet scent. A big thick mouthfull followed. If Judgement Day was dessert, this was dinner.Carbonation was light. The raisins come through, but not too much of the sweetness. Almost had some hints of stout in it. Also tasted some caramel and burnt sugar, but the 10% was very well hidden, with just a light bite at the finish. jcwattsrugger (5581), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
