Jan 4, 2008 Updated: Feb 6, 2009750 bottle thanks to the Patron Saints club. Feb 2009 tasting Thanks guys. Pours black but not quite opaque with a medium brown, lacy head. Nose of spices, alcohol, prunes, molasses. Taste the same with a nice, chewy mouth. Thick, viscous with tons of spices, malt coming through. Very complex with the aging helping out this beer. Rating is quite higher with aging. Nice beer in what is becoming my favorite U.S. brewery.

Jan 3, 2008 Bottle @ Chris_o. Pours a hazy dark brown color with a small off-white head. Has a spicy malty and slightly alcoholic aroma with some fruity hints. Sweet malty spicy dark fruit flavor. Long warming malty spicy finish with hints of raisins in the aftertaste.

Slightly alcoholic, phenolic almost-fruity.
Taste is raisiny and sugary sweet. Touches of caramel slight bitterness on the finish.
Finishes slightly alcoholic. Decent.

Jan 1, 2008 Yeah, man. This sauce is boss. A great balance of swimming raisins, dark cherry, molasses and smoke. As strong as it is, a very great everyday beer.

Dec 31, 2007 Murky dark orange-brown body, thin cream head. Toasty, sweet aroma with dark fruits and brown sugar. Sweet, earthy body with burnt caramels, toast, raisin and other dark fruits. Strong anise notes persist and become the salient characteristic of this beer, to my chagrin. Other spices are also present. A bretty tartness is beginning to take hold, but is still rather subtle. Well-made but I can’t get into anise.

Dec 31, 2007 Bottle. Murky brown with plenty of yeast sediment and a small off-white head. Aroma of dark caramel malts, some cheesiness, and dark fruit. Flavour has raisins and anise, pineapple, and burnt cocoa. Alcohol is well masked.
Tasted in December 2007.

Dec 24, 2007 My bottle (750ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jerc, mabel & tupalev -- courtesy of fordest. Pours a very deep ruby with a large lasting tan head. Aroma of dark malt, dark fruit, toffee, light chocolate, lightly funky yeast and hops -- lots going on there. Flavour of dark malt, spices, brown sugar, light funk and hops. Medium bodied. Pretty good stuff, I had a hard time discerning what style it was supposed to be but either way, I quite liked it.
