The nose is very vinous with lots of oak, toffee, dark fruits and lots of cherry. The flavor is fairly dry with vanilla, oak, cherry/berry, raisins and prunes. Medium body is soft with moderate carbonation. Finish is long and dry with a fair amount of tannins. SDbruboy (1833), San Diego, California, USA

Pours cloudy brick brown with a smallish head that diminished rather quickly leaving traces of lace. Aroma is dry and vinuous, roasty with wood and champagne notes. Roasty and woody flavors, tannic with hints of sour fruit, bitter chocolate and oak. Medium body and prickly carbonation. Good overall, but a little to barrelly for me to really enjoy it. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2008 Beautiful pour with opaque, deep mahogany colored body and thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Nose is fermented fruit and sherry. The nose actually reminded me of my tour through Cantillon last month. Flavor is similar to the nose, but less intense, and much better than the nose, which turned me off a bit. As I continue to drink this brew, the flavor mellows, and again, is much better than the nose. Beerlando (2353), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 29, 2008 Courtesy decatursteveo. Pours a cloudy, muddled dark brown. A small, foamy, off-white head settles to a wispy film with a bubbly edge. The aroma is of brown sugar malts, funky yeast, dark fruits, and tons of sour oak. There is a fumy alcoholic feel in the back of the nose, but not so much that it becomes intrusive. The flavor is somewhat tart and funky from the wine barrel and dark, fermenting fruits. Well balanced, with just enough of a sweet background to counteract the sourness. The medium-full body is dry and woodsy feeling, with a very short finish. Solid brew. The wine barrels really impose their will on this one. argo0 (7029), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is moderately sweet, orange, some oak, vinous, lemon, funk. Taste is medium sweet, vinous, some funk/sourness, light wood. Medium body, somewhat smooth. ¾ (5009), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 28, 2008 Cloudy ruby red colored body with a small tan colored head. Peppery brett and sour, dried red plums greet the nose, along with some creamed strawberries and perfumy floral notes. Tastes of hay, some crispix-like cereal grains, some bran (wtf?), and some buddy, moderately sour wood. Weird overall, and not really one of their winner, I think. Not terrible by any means, just nothing “amazing” about it. oh6gdx (9121), Vasa, Finland
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 28, 2008 Bottled. Hazy amber colour with small off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, grapes, some woodenness as well as quite red wineish. Flavour is lots of sour wood, caramel, some sugary notes as well as alcohol and mild madeiraish notes. As a whole, a really warming and wellbalanced brew. kmweaver (2501), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 27, 2008 Rating #1300. 750mL bottle, courtesy of pantanap. Thanks, Kan! Pours a murky, reddish-brown color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Pleasant amounts of red wine, tannins, and brown sugar in the aroma; aromatic red fruits and toasty oak; very generous and wine-infused; slight funk. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: tannic red wine, funky (slightly) tart cherries, and lots of red fruits and brown sugar; well-blended, wine-infused dubbel, with a slight amount of alcohol poking through; lively carbonation; some citrus and toasty oak and warming alcohol. Lengthy, tannic red fruits and brown sugar in the finish.
