JCB (1069), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 1, 2008 750ml from the LA Saints Club - thanks, Tomme! I don’t know why I sat on this for so long, but I guess it doesn’t matter. I certainly enjoyed the basic Lost and Found dubbel, even if it’s not world class. But there’s something about this one that’s really quite nice. Cloudy dark orange to burnt sienna pour, moderate head, and big yeasty swirls in the body. The aroma is certainly vinous, but without being cloying or overpowering the basic malty goodness of the dubbel. Slight vegetal flavors but mostly yeast in there, with the barrel only faintly present to me. Some heat and pepper towards the finish. Thick, lasting mouthfeel. Slight tart red grape, with the cabernet astringency - maybe a pinot noir would have been even better? Eh, I’m kvetching. Fine, fine beer. lb4lb (1453), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 1, 2008 Another fantastic beer shared by thickfreakness. Thanks buddy!
Pours a dark reddish brown with a light beige head. Smell is rich, sweet and tart cherry and caramel in harmony with a light smattering of hops to round it off. Taste is dry, oaky and milder than the nose, perhaps, and caramel like malt with balancing and very lightly flavoring hops. Slightly tart, and redwine like as well. Another solid beer and I enjoyed the wine/beer flavors melding together very well. Thomas_E (5065), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 5, 2008 Muddy amber colour with a beige head. Malty, light fruity tart aroma with a cherry sweetness. malty, cherry fruity flavor with almond notes. LooseCannon (680), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Aug 31, 2008 750ml bottle, Thanks to Immy for this one. Pours cloudy copper in color with full foamy brown head. Aroma sweet malty and fruity. Taste sweet, malty and woody with dry finish. cbkschubert (1611), Rattlesnake Country, Arizona, USA Aug 19, 2008 750 ml bottle via the Saints club and shared with highibus - Pours a hazy deep amber color with some floaties and a medium size light tan head. No lacing. Aroma is tart fruit, oak, and vinegar. Flavor is dark esters, oak, and vinious. Medium body. The oak really lingers on the palate. A decent beer, but I think I like L & F better.
