Commercial Description:
From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Farmhouse Styled Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over. http://www.lostabbey.com

Like a good, complex smooth IPA that felt like celebrating an occasion (there’s a lot of carbonation up front, reminiscent of a good bottle of bubbly). It has the feel of something from Unibroue, but with a more complex character. Aroma is bready, light but hinting of something more complex. Gives notes of the wort you smell walking by a microbrewery on a crisp morning. Tastes of the rind of orange fruits - tangerines or satsumas, definitely showing hops, but not at all overpowering. It manages to be both bright and complex - would pair perfectly with appetizers (fruit, bread, oil and balsamic, etc.). I was skeptical when I bought it, but this was certainly worth the $10.

750 ml bottle - pours gold with foamy white head; medium body and creamy finish; aromas of bread, light fruit, caramel and a mild funkiness; drinks crisp with flavors of citrus and banana; a little spice and mellow overall

Pours amber with very little head. Aroma and flavor has some nice spices, a little yeasty and some fruit in there. Not one of my favorite beers from Lost Abbey but still solid.

Pours a light amber with a very thin head with lots of loose bubbles. Aroma is of gooseberries, rubbing alcohol, figs, very dry and spicy/herbal. Taste is a bit too up-front - bold, bitter, and dry. Bit of alco-burn in the finish, dry and lightly tart even. Thin body, decent carbonation. I found this to be very lopsided - no sweetness to balance, no malt character or complexity.

Bottle. Pours amber with dense, bubbly off-white head, some lace. Nose is doughy, with herbal aromatic hops, melon, pear. Flavor has light fruity sweetness, mild bitterness, light mediciney-musty yeast. Finish has moderate lingering hop bitterness with herbal and orange peel character. Full palate.

Bottle. Poured nice golden/amber yellow. huge lively head from a hard pour. Smell of cloves, spice, coriander, wheat, nutmeg and peppar. Taste is pretty much the same. Nice mouth feel with a pretty good carbonation. Great Biere de Garde from Tomme.
