Commercial Description:
From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Farmhouse Styled Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over. http://www.lostabbey.com

Bottled. Citruspeel and flowery aroma. Cloudy yellow, creamy head. Nice orangezest notes, background bubblegum and vanilla - quite harmonic. Medium sparkly mouthfeel. Nice citrus aftertaste.

750ml Pours a hazy orange colour with a small sudsy white head. Nose is fruity, metallic and light malts. Initial is very neutral with only minor fruits. FInishing with a mild bitter hops, spices and fruits. The palate duration is average. Some lacing of the glass and good head retention.

It is what is, a light, refreshing table beer. Pours hazy orange with a thick sudsy off-white head that leaves good lacing and retains well. The nose is of light fruits (mainly apple and pear), subdued caramel malt and some earthy hops. The flavour is short lived and mild, with tropical fruits, spice, booze and grain on the finish. The backbone is bready, doughy malts that are reminiscent of what can be tasted in oktoberfests. The palate is watery, chalky and cuts out almost immediately. A good beer to pair with a casual meal, but not intense enough to drink on its own.

This beer pours a cloudy orange and golden color with a ice thick head to it, also there is some nice spotted laceing along the sides of the glass. It has a nice strong aroma and there are some hints of carmel and some fall spices as well. As you drink it though the flavor is kind of bitter and it fades as quick as the beer goes down your throat. There are some earthy notes with some hints of honey. The palate duration is very short and almost non existant.

25.4 oz bottle. 18 months old so i guess from the first release. Almost clear apple juice with a wisp and edging. Taste like the nose; honey, apricot and fresh baked bread. Light carb, medium light body, a little resiny. OK, but seems to have lost some crispness with aging.

Bottle from the First Houston Tasting
Pours deep gold with an aroma of faint honey. Flavor is cereal hops with a malt highlight. Full mouthfeel. Pretty good brew. Buzzed at this point in the tasting.

Picked up at the brewery in San Marcos. Pours out a dark golden color with a huge white head. Aroma is tart and slightly funky and a bit of spicy sweetness to it as well. As far as the taste of this thing goes I think I’ve found my first Lost Abbey beer I don’t like. Taste is bready and doughy with a bit of spice. Now I understand this is be expected in Biere de Garde but what I couldn’t get past was the awful flavor of vegetables. Very strange and very weird mix of bread and veggies that I didn’t like at all. Sorry.
