Commercial Description:
From the French word "Garde" meaning something worth keeping, this Farmhouse Styled Ale is a most delicious companion to a loaf of freshly baked bread from the oven. Grab a seat on the porch, some soft cheese and a tree ripened apple from your grandmother's old orchard. Relax and watch the evening arrive as the afternoon sun is consumed by the illuminating moon over the gardens. We brewed Avant Garde for you, our friends and families. Here's to things worth guarding over. http://www.lostabbey.com

750 ml bottle, cloudy yellow-orangeish hue, with an off-white head, yeasty, with a sweet peachy, apricot fruity nose, with a candied mandarin peel note, with hint of honey, some pale malts, with a light flowery hop aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, spicy, fruity mandarin character with some sweet candied tangerine peels, with a nice flowery hop citrusy, with some grassiness and subtle leafiness accents with a faint vanilla and coriander spicy note, leading towards a fruity, bitter hop finish.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Nice 1/2 finger creamy small bubble head that dies to coat the surface. Cloudy orange color. A tad more toward the sweet side than the hoppy side. Generally low hoppiness. My nose isn’t skilled enought tosmell anything.

Draft at Carlsbad Pizza Port. Aroma similar to a hefeweizen or wheat beer, but not that much sweet flavor. It was somewhat disappointing.

On tap at Carlsbad location; for the style this was pretty good, but tasted alot like a higher alcohol hefe. Lots of banana/yeast and clove; a little vegetable element. Pretty malty as well.

Bottle at beerbistro. Golden body with a smallish white head and a touch of lacing on the glass. Toasty malt in aroma with an odd note I have smelled before but cannot place it - spice? coriander?. Light boozey notes. Flavour of the same unnamed aroma note. Dry spicy alcohol in the finish lingers. It is a nice example of the style, but it starts to grate on me just a little as the glass warms up. Average palate.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a hazy yellow with a medium head. Very tart aroma, almost like sour apple candy. Flavors of yeast and earthiness, with a nice creaminess.

750 ml bottle. Granny Smith apples from the aromas off this golden yellow slightly hazy pour. Decent head the whole way through. Flavors not at all tart like the aromas suggested. Much more earthy and spicy. Some lemon zest, and then a very nice finish. Pretty good stuff.
