Commercial Description:
For centuries Venetians lightened the dark of winter with an elaborate upending of social order. In donning a disguise for Carnevale, for one night a pauper could become a prince, a learned man a fool, a proper lady a passionate lover...and no one would be the wiser. This beer is our tribute to that grand celebration of the unexpected. A Saison-style blonde ale with American hops and... well, thats all you really need to know. Now put on your mask, raise your glass, and toast to the magic of a winter’s night mystery. Le Carnevale!

Bottle from Papago Brewing. Pours a hazy golden color with a finger of white head. Aroma is funky, spices, yeasts, lemon. Flavor is funky, musty, lemon, spices, yeast, citrus. The funk in this one is really nice. Very nice saison, better than anticipated.

Bottle at Lucky Baldwin’s in Pasadena, CA. Pours a hazy golden orange with a white head. Lemon and funky aroma. Medium bodied with a perfect texture and carbonation. Pale malts leave room for all the nicely balanced nuances of citrus, , white pepper, and grassy hops. I think the sweetness is spot on. Nothing extreme here, but very drinkable.

Huge thanks to BMan1113VR for dropping me this one in the mail. Beautiful, opaque pour just looks appetizing. Nice spicy nose with some musty funk in there. Flavor is very smooth with a huge citrus rush. Finish is very crisp and dry. Pretty excellent saison.

Pours almost opaque. Decent fomey head that quickly desolves. Odd, but not offputting, musty aroma. Taste is crisp right off the bat, but then lightens to a smooth, sweet settle that is nothing but pleasant. Complex in its overall presentation, citrus and spicy with the appropriate yeasty coriander finish. I like this one a lot. Oddly, the folks at Lost Abbey don’t seem as excited about it as I think they should be.

Bottle thanks to gorditoabd. Pours a very cloudy light orange. I can’t believe how little light is coming through this. Aroma is straight funk with just a hint of lemon and spice. Flavor is sweet fruit (oranges, lemons and pears) with a bit of barnyard funk and a spicy finish. Mouthfeel is very creamy, which is really odd, but enjoyable.

Bottle courtesy of Kegbear: Poured a bright golden yellow color ale with a pure white large foamy head with great retention and perfect lacing. Aroma of European dry hops with light notes of Brett. Aroma of dominated by European hops (Saaz?) with some light bretty notes and some distinctive Belgian malt. Taste is also dominated by some dry hoppy notes with a nice Belgian malt backbone. I didn’t notice as much ester as I would have expected but I still quite enjoyed this one. Full body with great carbonation and no alcohol note whatsoever.

Bottle at our Monday tasting. Pours a hazy amber with a super creamy head. Fruity, citrus aroma. Light hops, smells like Cascade. Very mildly funky, I dunno if thats the spices or if a small amount of brett was used. This is good but its missing the balls out spiciness of some of the best saison’s. Exceedingly dry, like Saison Dupont in that regard but with a much lighter sweeter body. Good but I dunno if this is a particularly stellar representation of the style.
