badgerben (2990), Blaine, Minnesota, USA Apr 10, 2008 Rating #2800. Many, Many, MANY thanks to Stine for sharing this one! Cloudy yellow color with a thin head. Excellent aroma that is very barnyard-like and yeasty. Flavors of wheat, spices, yeast and a bone dry malt. Some dry horsey flavors on the finish. Wicked good.
holdenn (1081), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 750 ml bottle. Thanks to Andrew for giving me the chance to try this one. Fluffy white head on top of a hazed golden yellow body. Spicy and sweet nose that’s hard to put my finger on. Hay, sugars, lemons, and spicy yeast. Not very vibrant, as its lacking the necessary carbonation. Sweet malt and yeasty flavors. Peppery, spicy, herbal, grassy, and piney. Finishes with a spicy funk. Decent beer, but its a little bit of a mess of flavors. enginaaron (20), San Diego, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 Fresh aroma. No hops but a sweet honey aroma. Golden color with light head; rather cloudy. Very lovely sweetness that develops very well. Different shades of sweetness and honey. Mild carbonation with very small bubbles. Outer edges of palate that lingers and remains. Lovely. Quite lovely and easy to drink. Love it! jake65 (1181), Meridian, Idaho, USA Jul 4, 2008 Bottle: Dusty blonde / golden pour with a small white head. Nose is lemon and citrus with spices, some florals, and overall crisp. Tastes more spicey with some light yeast. Cinnamon, cloves, a little floral and fruity. Somewhat dry and a bit tart. Nice. chrisafari (48), Orange, California, USA Jul 4, 2008 Pours cloudy blonde/gold. Sweet belgian yeast aroma. Flavor of sweet citrus and herbal complexities. Finishes bitter and hoppy, slight hint of salt. Leaves your throat dry. Dickinsonbeer (2458), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a hazy golden with a decent carbonation and a nice medium sized white head - very foamy tight and lasts a long time- nice lace as well. Aroma has some typical saison phenolic yeasty character to it- light sea salt, floral, with some wierd plastic-like phenols that develop especially with american hops blended with belgian yeast- kind of like all the attempts at triples with american hops- it gets plasticy and too phenolic. Flavor has some citrus, orange and lime zest, more phenols, black pepper, some olives and capers, nice doughy pale malts, earhty and more citrus hops but they dont blend quite well- a good amount of spearminty type bubblegum in the middle, wintergreen and teaberry, with some gin berry with some wet hay in the end. Mouthfeel is a bit big and it almsot seems as though it doesnt finish as dry as it should- and I also wanted it to have a much higher carbonation typical of the best saisons. Id much prefer to drink the red barn over this. Ok I guess, but I was hoping for something more.
