Commercial Description:
It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

aroma is of some hops and intense sweetness. appearance is straw yellow. flavor is of orange and yeast making this almost saison like. very light yeast funk. very fresh and light, well complimented by citric hoppiness. palate is somewhat dry, bitterness lingers on the back of the tounge long after a swig.

Pours a spakling golden color with a moderately full, brilliant white, rocky head which diminishes fairly quickly and leaves some nice but minimal lace. Nose is a bit off; notes of herbal hops, vegetables (celery), some very sweet breads from the malts and yeast, musty yeast notes, maybe even some ginger. Flavor is better with no vegetable notes; ginger root is more prominent, hops are herbal but faintly spicy and floral, yeast is faintly musty, and sweet bready malt notes are light. Palate is light to medium, lively, drying a bit, and slick. Finishes lightly bitter with herbal notes and short, only hints at some yeast and ginger root. A somewhat strange Belgian with some nice notes and some offputting notes. Everything is just fair, nothing is worth remembering. One of the breweries less intriguing beers.

Moderate sized sloppy white head of varying sized bubbles. Quite rocky on top. Light floral aroma, some herbal notes and dandelions, light malts and a hint of orange. Color is a hazy peachy brown. Not all that impressive looking in the glass. Flavor is a bit on the weak side. A little astringent and pretty bitter for a belgian. Floral hops, some light sugary malts. Mild alcohol presence. I don’t know this brew just seems very bland to me on a bunch of fronts. Finishes bitter and hoppy. Not all that well balanced. Body is a bit thin for all of the hops and bitterness.

pale yellow, muted aroma and taste. Bitterness. Just really could not get much nose or taste out of this.

A- Pours a very clear pale straw/golden hue with a huge white, creamy head, some thin lacing, and a whirlwind of whooshing bubbles S- Nose is dominated by west coast hops (citrus, pine), some belgian malts, and subtle spice and earthiness, bananas T- Very smooth taste that is characterized by both yeasty, bready malts and a surprising balance with floral and citrus hops, the finish is mostly bittering hops that sticks around for a while M- Light-medium bodied, adequate carbonation, thin to watery texture D- Light and smooth belgian ale that is surprisingly hoppy for the style

Draft at the Brewery. Pours a pale golden with a white lacing head. Sweet maltyness, maybe some fruity flavors too. Smooth mouth, easy drink.

Poured from a caged and corked 750ml bottle and served in a tulip. Poured a mostly clear golden orange with a thick beige head. Decent retention and some attractive lacing. The aroma included fresh grass, lemon zest, lightly toasted grains, sourdough bread, and a touch of pear and honey. The flavor was made up of graham cracker, white pepper, and lemongrass. Finished mostly dry, but there was a light lingering note of honeydew sweetness. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had light, tingly carbonation. Could have used a touch more perhaps, but it didn’t really detract from the beer itself. Definately not my favorite Lost Abbey beer, but still pretty decent.

Tasted back to back with the Saints ’08 brett version. This one pours a lightly hazy, glowing orange-amber color with a small, foamy, off-white head. The froth settles to a wispy film with a bubbly edge, tiny spots and thin, jagged lines of lace falling behind on the glass. Aromas include a lightly sweet, grainy malt base with hints of honey, followed by dry lemongrass hops and estery Belgian yeast. Flavors are quite pleasing, the light, fresh, grainy malts balanced well by grassy, peppery hops. Traces of candied lemon and orange rind add tasty spice, as do hints of edible flowers. Medium bodied, dry, and peppery on the tongue, this brew is easy drinking but perhaps a tad bit overly carbonated. Nice stuff....but the brett version really rocks.
