Commercial Description:
It’s an unassuming road leading to the priory. Here, off the corner of two intersecting roads, dedicated monks have been making beer for over 150 years. It’s always been a simple life – the kind that requires they brew only enough to sustain the activities of their monastery In the silence of passing seasons, they pray, they brew and retire in a solitary existence behind the sheltering walls. They live a most interesting life. Most likely one we wouldn’t sustain. Nearby, each summer, the trellised fields spring to life as rows of resinous green cones are trained toward the heavens. Rumor is some monks love these hops and being surrounded by budding yellow aromas and the leafy pungent fields inspires them. Since we weren’t sensible enough to locate our brewery near hop fields, we can only offer this blond ale in celebration of our Abbey brethren and their steadfast Devotion.

Monks Cafe Philadelphia in company of Loz Casey and Traci, 15-11-08. Pours hazy golden with white head, though in the confines of a back bar that resembles the Bat cave for gloominess its difficult to see. In fact it was that dark in this place that I couldnt even see to write my notes and had to dictate them to Loz who has better eyesight than me. Nice soft lemony flavours and aromas, good farmhouse feel to this, plenty of yeast, drying at the end. Very nice beer.

Bottled. Pours out in a hazy golden colour with a rich lively white foam. Dried oranges, mild herbal hops and cookies in the aroma. Medium-bodied with notes of yeast, dried oranges, crackers amd cookies with crisp and fresh notes of grassy, herbal and citrousy hops. Dryish medium-bitter finish of grass, herbs, mild white pepper and cookies. A well-made, balanced brew

Pours a cloudy straw yellow with a minimal head and a sweet lemon-lozenge aroma. Pleasant hoppy taste, honey and lemon-lozenge again, but something in there isn’t quite right... my notes mention urine but this was several beers into the tasting (but before I managed to nearly kill myself with pistachio chocolate - I’m allergic - and then break G’s glass in a frantic effort to fill repeatedly with water to wash the pistachios out of my mouth; ah memories!) Thin body but lightly creamy with decent carbonation. I’m not too fussy on blonde ales, so I think it’s just me, but that’s how we’re supposed to rate... thanks to G for the taste!

Bottle. Pours a hazy/murky pale yellow, nice white head that dissapates rather fast. Aroma is citrus, grass and malt. Flavor is sweet malt, hops and a touch of spices and fruit.

750 ml, cork and cage. Hazy golden pour with a fine white head. Belgiany-IPA type beer. Hops apparent, and well balanced with clean malts and belgian yeast. Slightly spicy and bready. Super easy drinking and quite tasty. While not mind blowing, it’s really enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours with a largish, thick slighly off-white head and a hazy golden body. Good lacing. Aroma is weak with yeast, a bit of spice and some vinous element. Taste is hay, yeast, lightly peppery, and a touch of hops. Dry and crisp mouthfeel. A weaker part of the PB/LA/PP lineup.

Bomber at Jerry’s. Amber-gold with good, foamy white head / Austere, vinuous, banana and spice nose / Medium body, hoppy and dry, but creamy with very good, bitter finish / Dry, grassy flavors of banana, apples, cream, and grain / A Belgian cream ale.

7/28/2007 and 9/04/2008: Lost Abbey Devotion has grassy citrus, perfumy, spicy, and floral hops in the fruity, slightly spicy aroma. The flavor has orange and grapefruit with a dry finish and pleasing floral bitterness. The bitterness level is mild to moderate. This beer has a copper color with a substantial foamy beige head that creates good lacing. The mouthfeel is soft and smooth. Overall this beer is very much like a Pale Ale or IPA and quite good.

Samples from 1 pint 9.4 fl. oz. bottles (Alc. 6.25% by Vol.) shared by OhioDad at the "Columbus Tasting: Ate, now with gramatical errors" event on 7/28/2007 and by alexsdad06 on 9/04/2008. Thank you Scott and Brad! Rating #308 for this beer...
