Feb 20, 2009 2008 bottle. Pours an almost opaque orange, not much head or carbonation. Hoppy and sweet aroma, the flavor is much less sticky than I was expecting from the nose. A hint of funkyness, and the alcohol is well hidden. My bottle was a little undercarbonated for my personal taste.

Feb 15, 2009 Tasted at Dr. Bill’s Tasting at GABF. Copper pour with big white head. Aroma of yeasty fruit, vanilla, clovers and some malt. Flavor is coriander, dark fruits, spices, hops....well layered. Nice beer.

Feb 8, 2009 I got very big hops in this bottle. Gorgeous white foam on a perfect copper liquid. Aroma is medium full. Tastes to me like a fusion of the West Coast IPA and biere de garde. And a phenomenal fusion at that. Delicious malts with soft grape nuts, hint of candy and coriander with big citric, piney, hops. It took me a while to feel this one out and comprehend what was going on. The texture is easy and without particulate or viscosity issues to complicate an extended look at the entire beer. Still very bright without any dampening of the hops or washing out of the malt shine.

Feb 5, 2009 Bottle of the 2007 (sampled 2/5/09). Pours a crystal clear copper hue with a nice full just off white head. Very full nose of vanilla, berry, Belgium/Brett? yeast. Flavors of vanilla cream, faint hop resin (most of the pop has died out) caramel, and pepper. Feel is very smooth with some spices sides. Alcohol leaves a gentle burn as part of a long finish.

Feb 5, 2009 (Bottled, 0.75l) Very hazy (opaque with yeast) red-amber with a very small head. Strawberries in the Orvaly-tart aroma. Very fruity, (straw)berryish flavor with cloves, anise and vanilla with reasonable, caramely maltiness and hints of acidity. Medium-bodied, medium-carbonated, smooth palate. A beautiful combination of sweet and salty flavors. Certainly the best Bière de Garde I’ve ever had.

Feb 4, 2009 Another good Lost Abbey offering, this one supposedly a "biere de garde" brewed with myrrh. I have no clue what myrrh tastes like, I only know it was the crappiest of the 3 wise men’s gifts. Orangish-red color, white head. Sour dark fruits on the aroma, spices, and sweet malt. Caramel malts, candied fruits, brown sugar, and some funk on the flavor. Medium palate. Solid beer overall.

Full bodied and dry palate with little carbonation. Sourness, date. bitterness, malts, some grassy flavours, plum and berry flavours in taste. Sour and bitter aftertaste.
