Had this at the Wood And Barrel Aged Beer Festival in Chicago. This is a beer for sourheads. If you love sour brews this one is full of Brett. Oak prominent in nose and taste as well as lemony sourness pucker up.....Slightly on the acidic side but eases with each sip.Love to see these Brewing guys get together and collaborate and come up with these one offs!

[Bottle] Pours a hazy gold with a smallish effervescent white head. Aroma is very much like a gueuze. Sweet and tart aroma, not terribly funky. Has quite a bit of fruit - pears, apples, some grapes. A bit musty. Very sour on the front, but very smooth as well. Medium/thin mouthfeel. Lemon zest, bitter orange peel, somewhat grapey. Leaves a lingering tart/bitterness on the back of your tongue. Fairly dry, but not as much as I was expecting.

My 900th Rating - Bottle: Cloudy, cloudy yellow gold with no head. It has a funky egg, tart apple fart aroma that you begin to like right away. Tart with a capital T - it makes your face cringe and twist on the first few drinks. Intense and full of life with a dry aftertaste. Extremely tasty!

750mL Bottle. Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/26049401@N08/3566 Aroma is a curt, lemony acid. Some light passionfruit and grapefruit juice. Some real guezey tones. Pours a brilliant golden tone, with an edge of white. An interesting waft of bright lemon acid, sweet almond nut, and some slightly heavy sugar. A bit of bubblegum. Straw-like vinous character finds a home amongst the light sugars. Good gummy wildness. This is the first American sour ale that comes anywhere near the complexity of Belgian lambics. Very tart and puckery. Everyone is clasping their lips. Good clean, crisp finish, and the very nice high complex acids and alcohols. Nuanced. Fresh, bright and delicious. This is outstanding. I would have liked to have seen some more wheat depth, but I appreciate the lesser amount of oak that can, in my opinion mar the palate of wild beers. Thanks so much Andy for this stunning experience.

Bottle very generously shared by Beachbum1975. This guy pulled out all the stars tonight. Pours a murky and cloudy gold in color. There is a bit of a frothy head sitting atop the beer. Smell is sour with a good amount of funkinesss as well. Has quite a bit of wine like qualities. This is an extremely sour and mouthpuckering beer. Reminds me of Beatification in the amount of mouthpuckering it brings to the table. There is a bit of lite lemonhead candy coming through in the background. This is very dry in the mouth. Extremely lip puckering and sour. Great beer.

Wow. Big thanks to Vern at Brouwer’s for sharing this with me, capping off what might have been the best beer night I’ll ever have - Brouwer’s Big Wood 08. This might be the perfect sour ale. Pours a hazy gold color, with a thin fizzy head. Seriously tart, but with a great barnyard funk that somehow manages to balance the tartness. Everything about this brew seems perfectly balanced. Parts of it certainly remind me of the Girardin gueuze – it has notes of lemon and grapefruit, along with a slightly earthy undertone. I’m incredibly impressed – a real treat to be able to try this one. RERATE 12-27-08 - Started the evening with a bottle of this at Brouwers - xmas present for Matt. Again, the balance is just incredible - much like RR Deviation, but a little crisper, and the most fulfilling sour ale Ive ever had the pleasure to try. Leaves you salivating, wanting more. Absolutely fantastic.

Bottle in a trade. Pours a golden clear body with a thin white head. Sour funkiness, multiple fruity accents some tarter then others including pear, peach, and citrus. A nice lightly acidic lemon drop in the end. This beer is awesome. 4.4 Nice, exactly what i wrote the second time. 4.4. Truly an awesome brew!
