Commercial Description:
A life worth living is full of discovery and we are reminded everywhere there is opportunity. All it takes is desire to seek out and find these things, these moments and everything in between. We brewed Lost and Found Abbey Ale to pay homage to the great monastic breweries of Belgium. Like us, we hope you’ll take the time to discover a beer that breathes aromas of figs, raisins and candied fruits. Please join us by raising your glass as we offer a toast to patience, perseverance, and all the things we have lost along the way and were somehow lucky enough to find once again.

This is one of the best of the style I’ve had so far. Hazy reddish brown pour with small white head. Aroma is cranberry, raison, and loads of dark fruit with lost of caramel sweetness and mild yeast character. Flavor is sweet, balancing dark fruit, booze, and light fruit surprisingly well. Lots of different sugar types make the flavors complex and unique. Palate is full, leaving a sticky smacking finish.

(on bottle) Red, somewhat murky, small, white head.. Huge esterish nose; peach, liquorice, abricot, strawberry; the fruits gets dominating. Perfect carbonation. At first the caramels are in front, but the alcohol blends figs and toast very nicely into it all.

750 mL bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar. Not much of a pop when I pulled the cork. Pours a lovely maroon-brown. The off-white head fizzes quickly and then disappears into absolute nothingness. Aroma is sweet with brown sugar, maraschino cherries, gooey semi-dried dates in a Middle Eastern market (sorry--was recently in Israel and Jordan), caramel, and light yeast. A great nose on this dubbel. Flavor has plums and cherries lightly covered with chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, and just a hint of booze. The main problem here is that it’s flat and that takes away from the potential richness of the flavors. I don’t know if this is part of the carbonation problems that Lost Abbey has supposedly been having, but it’s unfortunate. It’s still a very good dubbel, but could be better if they fix the carbonation. I may have to try this on tap next time I find it and re-rate.

Pour is a very nice looking murky, chestnut-mahogany color but the head is small, beige, fizzy and fully diminishing with no lace. Nose is pleasant with lots of figs, raisins, dates, caramelized notes, toasty nutty tones, light chocolate, and plum; very fruity and sugary but not overly sweet. Flavor is similar but with more malt richness; fig again is prominent, raisins, plums, nice Belgian chocolate, toasted almonds, caramelized dates, light brown sugar, and just a bit of toasted oak notes in the finish lending a mild and earthy bitterness. Palate is fair but dubbelish with a medium body, round, silky, thin, and very lively. Finishes with the fruit notes becoming almost apple-ish, like an apple brandy with other notes of similar chocolate, toasted almonds, brown sugar, and the oak notes lingering. A very nice fruity-type dubbel with the addition of the raisins really complementing the beer instead of dominating. A very disappointing appearance and an average palate but a very drinkable and likable beer. One of my favorite dubbels and I would expect nothing less from LA/PP.

Bottle thanks to Craig. Pours a nice brown with a thin off white head. Aroma is sweet - strong with apple, brown sugar, and caramelized malts. Notes of dark fruits, fig, and a bit of chocolate come out. On the palate it is very carbonated. The flavor brings out a hard cider quality and the finish is a bit dry. Very different, but pretty good.

Bottle. Pours solid amber, with a medium tan head. Aroma of spice, roasted malts, and sweet fruit, especially cherries. Full body, with a tangy aftertaste. Excellent Lost Abbey dubbel. Highly recommended.

in the nosea slight fruity acidity, yeast and toasterd malts. The beer has to little foam in my opinion. There is very much carbonoxide in the beer. The flavor is excitingingly long. Fruity esthers, wine and wood experiences, and also the dry darkchocolat flavor is responsable for a very long aftertaste, that lingers on. Impressive is the tasty result with only 8% alcohol. But in NL it’s almost unafordable. But raelly a pleasant experience
