A life worth living is full of discovery and we are reminded everywhere there is opportunity. All it takes is desire to seek out and find these things, these moments and everything in between. We brewed Lost and Found Abbey Ale to pay homage to the great monastic breweries of Belgium. Like us, we hope you’ll take the time to discover a beer that breathes aromas of figs, raisins and candied fruits. Please join us by raising your glass as we offer a toast to patience, perseverance, and all the things we have lost along the way and were somehow lucky enough to find once again.

Pours a ruby brown with a small head. Aroma is of raisins, sugar, and some other dark fruits. Nice malt backing, and nice little bit of carbonation.

In the bomber bottle from the Solana Beach Pizza Port. Pours a reddish brown with a very small to no head and copious large carbonation bubbles. The aroma was simply amazing i the tannins that made it smell quite like walking into a leather tack shop. The fun ends there. The body was too thin- watery in fact, the palate was harsh and too fizzy. There just was not a lot of memorable flavor here other than a very mild raisin fruitiness. A disappointment.

thin, dispeptic, brownish, no head. aroma is mildy fruity, with bread-like tones. the flavor is too sour for my tastes, but surprisingly mild. bubbly mouth feel. inoffensive, but not much going on here.

3-2-08 bottle shared at tasting
Thin amber light brown in color with a small tan bubbly head. Nice smooth candied apple smell with light caramel notes in there too. Sweet flavor of doughy bread and sweet malt. Mouthfeel is fitting for the flavor. Drinkable but not on the top of my list overall. Just a bit more alcohol than I wanted to notice.

Bottle. Poured light brown with a red high lights. Smell of dried raisins, figs, plum, yeast and candy sugar. Taste is same as above with a lively carbonation. Little bit of a oak in there but I know this was not oak aged. Great Dubbel.

Pours a muddy caramel color with some yeast in the glass. Nice beige head. Smell is oddly refreshing and minty with some alcohol presence. Taste is rather mundane with perhaps a hint of belgian yeast, light malt flavor, and again an alcohol presence that comes through as almost minty again. Drinkable, and not really offensinve, as the flavor is so mild, but nothing really screamed great beer about this one, to me.

Had this beer on tap at Toronado in San Francisco. This strong beer tasted of caramel and sweet, candied orange peel.

In short: Intense Dubbel. Rich nutty/fruity body and powerful hopping. One of my favourite of the style.
How: Bottle, 750ml, various aging (little variation), this rating for a 6+ months old bottle
The look: Cloudy golden-brown body with a small beige head
In long: Strong nutty and caramel nose. Taste is like eating one of those grocery store bags of mix stuff (nuts, raisins, dried fruits) covered by rich caramel. Some earthy notes. The intense citric hops really sets it apart from most dubbels. So intense that it’s hard to take big sips. Body is just as decadent as high-class scotch ales or barley wines. Dubbel s don’t get much better than that. I got a lot of satisfaction from the Lost & Found, but still no sign of my missing gloves.
