theisti (1638), Leawood, Kansas, USA Dec 11, 2007 750 ml. bottle from Zinister, shared at the 12/7 tasting at Indra’s. Pour is caramel brown with a tan head that fades immediately. Aroma of dried fruit (primarily raisins) and Belgian yeastiness. Taste is a nice solid maltiness with raisins throughout. As it warms, the Belgian yeast flavor takes center stage. Nice full body, and extremely well balanced. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Dec 7, 2007 Thanks Tim! 750ml bottle. Cinnamon, dark fruits, wood, brown sugar, mild spice & earthiness. Taste is brown sugar, dark fruits, spice, citrus, and light alcohol. Tasty. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Dec 5, 2007 Bottle. Pours with hardly any head. Taste is baked and doughy with lots of raisens and cinnamon. Grapes and oranges to go with some coriander. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2007 750 ml bottle. Pours a dark cloudy amber with a creamy medium sized beige head. Aroma of dates, caramel, brown sugar, figs and yeast. Taste is mildly sweet with hints of brown sugar, caramel, dates, raisins, fresh yeast with a slight spicy finish. Very nice brew from a great brewery. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Nov 28, 2007 From the bottle, pours dark ruby with mahogany tones and a small khaki head. Rich sweet nose of chocolate covered raisin, cherry, port, and vanilla. Flavor is sweet, but never cloying due to the higher carbonation in the finish, palate remains crisp and light, getting away from the syrupy body that could have been. The depth really shows in the flavor, picking up the the raisin and almost prune sweet flavors up front, followed by chocolate, vanilla, and faint dark rum quality. This beer just keeps getting better as it warms, more fruit and subtle spices show. Very enjoyable beer. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Nov 27, 2007 750ml bottle. Pours a dark amber-brown color with a quickly fading tan head. Huge Belgian-yeast/fruit aroma with some caramel, dried fruits (raisin, date, cherry). Flavors were fairly typical for the style, but in a perfectly archetypal sort of way. Dried fruits (dates, cherries, raisins of course), brown sugar, caramel, some light spices, barely any bitterness. Soft sugary slightly creamy palate with medium-light carbonation. On the higher end of what you’d want out of the style, but not awe-inspiring. I’d take one of these any time... cbkschubert (1945), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA Nov 25, 2007 750 ml bottle - Pours a clear light brown color with a large light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is spicey dark esters and light yeast. Flavor is strong esters and light sweet malt. Medium body. A good beer. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 22, 2007 25.4 oz bottle. Clear scarlet brown with a wispy tan haze. Nose is caramel raisin with notes of funk, peel and grass. Light carb, medium light, mild drying. Taste much like the nose. Touches of burnt sugar, sage, lemon peel and ginger. Quite enjoyable.
