Nov 2, 2007 Updated: May 3, 2008Rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. Pours a clear red brown with a smooth beige head. Aroma of red fruit, yeasty doughies. More red fruit in the flavor with pears, chocolate, roast and too much alcohol. 7/4/6/3/13 = 3.3
Rerate: I thought fruit and dough played alot better together. The alcohol did not seem to dominate as much as I had previously noted. Maybe it was a bit too warm at the dubbel tasting. 6/4/7/4/14 = 3.6

Nov 2, 2007 Appears a dark amber with red edges when held to the light. The off white head slowly fades into a mild cap. Streaky lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of raisins, caramel, rum, vanilla, nougat, ripe fruit, brown sugar, with a nutty finish.
Taste is of the same as the aromas with brown sugar, nuts, caramel standing out to make for a very nice flavor.
Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, boozy, rummy raisins, caramel, light cocoa, along with lightly smoked meat grazing along the tongue.

Oct 29, 2007 Rated blind from "Better Know a Style: Abbey Dubbel" tasting. Dark brown, some rubiness, small off-white creamy head. Aroma is doughy with alc. Flavor is yeasty, dough, red and dark fruit, and alc. Thin to medium body and creamy. Pretty nice.

Oct 28, 2007 750 mL bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a hint of purple and a bubbly beige head. The aroma is banana peel, anise, some sweet fudge, mild tobacco, a few stray citrus notes. The flavor is very yeasty, with lots of sweet bread notes. Some banana, anise, and caramel follow, then some peanuts and wood. It finishes with a slightly tannic, fruity note. Not bad.

Oct 23, 2007 On tap/bottle many times. Had a pint last weekend at the Neighborhood and realized that I hadn’t rated this one. Im not a huge fan of dubbel’s, but this is pretty good stuff. Dark brown color, nice aroma of fruit and yeast. Flavor is nice, dominated by raisin and prune with a touch of alcohol.

Oct 22, 2007 Pours a murky brown color with a thin offwhite head. Nice aroma of leather, yeast and caramel, there’s a rich malt presence too. Good flavor of caramel, leather, caramel, there’s a luscious malt presence and there’s astringency in the finish. The body is full with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.

Oct 19, 2007 The beer pours from the 750ml cork and caged bottle a rather hazy brownish red with a large creamy light tan head that fades away leaving a velum like coating of lace. Nose is rich in sweet malt, fruit aromas; I’d say cherries with a bit of raisins. Start is fruity sweet; the malt presence makes the top feel moderate, touch of alcohol bitterness at the back. Finish has a spiny acidity, alcohol warms the belly, and hops provide some spiciness, dry and long lasting aftertaste, quite a nice drinking beer.
