Pours a deep brown with some nice chestnut/ruby red highlights and a medium creamy light tan lacing head. Aroma of raisins, hard candy, banana, nuts, figs, citrus, floral, some caramel, light chocolate, Belgian spices and yeast...just a very nice complex Dubbel aroma. Flavor of yeast, chocolate malt, raisins and other dark fruits. Also picking up some caramel, toffee and nuts. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 11, 2007 Pours darker than I was expecting with a reddish hue to it. Smell is dark fruits, but to my pleasant surprise there was a bit of sourness to it. This has a huge mouthfeel and is very pleasant. There are plenty of juicy, dark fruits in this offering. This may be my favorite Lost Abbey beer to date. You never notice the ABV. The complexity in this beer is very nice and everything works wonderul together. Very well done. stefanje (938), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2007 750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy mahogany reddish brown with a off-white head that fades quickly(3 minutes). Aroma was light with malts, spices, and dried fruits, but the aroma disappeared with the head. Points deducted for aroma and appearance because of the poor head and weak aroma. The flavor is clearly that of a Belgian style beer, and a good one at that. Flavors are complex with spices(a bit of coriander perhaps), dried fruit, caramel, walnuts, and a touch of hops. Mouthfeel is ample and full with a touch of astringency. Finish is long and slightly sweet with alcohol showing. Overall this is a very like-able beer that I will drink again. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2007 From a 750mL Bottle. Mild pop upon un-corking the bottle. Pours a transparent, fiery black cherry color with a finger of creamy beige head. Impressive clarity; it’s like looking into one of those king marbles that appears to be black from a distance, but reveals a deep ruby color on close inspection. Head fizzles a bit quickly, leaving a blotchy layer of uneven sea suds floating aimlessly on top; a quick swirl of the glass sends the foam rebuilding in the right direction. Lots of raisin in the nose, along with some mild vanilla and dusty, woody yeast esters that have a subtle mace-like quality. Toasted chestnuts and creme brulee sugar. Intriguingly complex nose, but not overwhelming - patience is necessary for full appreciation. Medium bodied, creamy carbonated mouthfeel. Carbonation is a bit on the light side and could use a bit of a zip to help accentuate the spicy characters. Notes of shaved nutmeg and coconut shell start out on the palate, but fade with the carbonation, leaving a somewhat blander coating of thin raisin juice left sitting on the tongue. I want to say it has a fig like fruitiness, but it’s as if the fig spice flees with the carbonation, leaving a somewhat less interesting fruit character behind. Dry enough and not sweet, but far from being light and crisp. Finishes dark and leathery, with some chewy tobacco and oaky raisin skins left lingering on the palate. ogglethorp (887), Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Aug 11, 2007 Bottle via Bmartin08!! Pours brown with a beige head. Aroma is raisins, prunes, plums, caramel. Flavor is figs, brown sugar, dried dark fruits, some chocolate, and some spice. Palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, sweet malty finish. This is a great brew, some alcohol warmth, and hoppy notes in the finish.
