Commercial Description:
A life worth living is full of discovery and we are reminded everywhere there is opportunity. All it takes is desire to seek out and find these things, these moments and everything in between. We brewed Lost and Found Abbey Ale to pay homage to the great monastic breweries of Belgium. Like us, we hope you’ll take the time to discover a beer that breathes aromas of figs, raisins and candied fruits. Please join us by raising your glass as we offer a toast to patience, perseverance, and all the things we have lost along the way and were somehow lucky enough to find once again.

Bottle from realale420 (thanks), and again at Mugs Belgian Blast - this beer was a bit drier from the bottle than on tap, but otherwise the same - red/brown pour, a little cloudy - dry, almost smokey aroma, with hints of clove and other spices - the roasted malt character is suprising for the style, but not unwelcome - a little bit sweet on tap, but the smokey quality keeps it from being too powerful - plums, figs, some dried herbs - I’m really liking this brewery’s output so far.

The beer pours from the 750ml cork and caged bottle a rather hazy brownish red with a large creamy light tan head that fades away leaving a velum like coating of lace. Nose is rich in sweet malt, fruit aromas; I’d say cherries with a bit of raisins. Start is fruity sweet; the malt presence makes the top feel moderate, touch of alcohol bitterness at the back. Finish has a spiny acidity, alcohol warms the belly, and hops provide some spiciness, dry and long lasting aftertaste, quite a nice drinking beer.

Bottle at BCTC 2009: Murky brownish copper with a tan film of head. Malt aroma with apparent raisin, toasted cocoa and peppery phenolics. Fluffy feel on the palate with a dry flavor. Peppery yeast phenols with some tartish green raisn notes and mild fig sweetness that drowns out that dry yeast character. A decent interpretation of the style.

Bottle from bu11zeye. Roasted molasses, plum sugar aroma. Sweet and mellow. Pour is a deep brown with a small khaki head. Flavor is rich and velvety, lots of candi sugar and sweet beet juice. Correct for the style though lacking im complexity. Not the most exciting version of a dubbel in the world, but certainly fits the bill.

[261-20070413] 1pt9.4floz (c/o HogTownHarry, w/ him, blankboy, jerc, mds, tupalev). Deep barrel wine-grape richness in the aroma with not unpleasant light plastic background notes. Hazy, brown orange body with a medium-lasting bubbly creamy off-white head. Tastes like sweet candied booze with light caramel and floral notes. Medium-full boozy body. Super alcohol with strange candy is an interesting blend.

Bottle: Courtesy of DarkElf via trade. Aroma has lots of grape, plum, yeast, and a hint of alcohol. Pours a transparent copper with a small white head. Flavor starts with grape, plum, and yeast. Finishes with some light raisin, spice, and a touch of alcohol.

Bottle: Muddy brown, quite dirty, caramel highlights, large light beige foamy head, fairly sticky lacing.   Big bready malty nose, slight pale fruit skin, along with raisins, figs, and dates.   Even though its only 7%, it seems like there is a bit of alcohol there.   Subtle notes of caramel and toffee.   Extremely bready on the tongue, warming for a 7% brew.   Aformentioned dark pitted fruit, but mainly a strong breadiness with a minor spiced aspect.   Seems to be a little bit of alcohol that is noticeable.   Almost seems its higher than whats stated on the bottle.   Wow, this one really is meaty!   Moderatey body, heavy mouthfeel.   Figgy finish, trailering alcohol, remains heavily breaded.   This is one malty mo-fo.   Very yeasty too.   Well built, but quite heavy.   T’was somewhat sweet, but towards the end it gets drier and a little salty like.   Tiz best to share a 750ml with someone as this one here drinks like a meal!   Thanks Tad for the bottle!
