Gentle, hazy chestnut brown with ring of head. Easy malting with a yeasty-sourness more reminiscent of a sour-brown ale piqued by notes of figs. Body is a flavorful medley of figs, caramel malts and some mild sour-yeasty notes. An excellent if perplexing drinking experience. Abbey Dubbel meets Flanders sour-brown and with rousing success.

Reddish brown in color with pretty much no head. Smell is sweet, sugary, molasses, raisans, and fruits. Taste is much the same as the smell. Good flavors in there.

Murky orangish brown, moderate head, decent lacing and retention. Aroma is raisin, spice, caramel, earth, yeast. Flavor brings this, medium body with a lot of y east. Enjoyable.

Translucent, semi-hazed and cherry-sapphire in color with a doily wrung for the head. Aroma’s rocking – chocolate caramel cubes, brown sugar avec frying bananas, nutmeg, ginger, caramelized chamomile and a hint of alcohol presence. Dry, sugary flavor blast causes cavities to accrue in the more vulnerable regions of the palate. Ginger and banana crème seep into honeyed grahams. Pears get caramelized with anisette and cocoa powder, thrown in for extra substance. Very well balanced, with a hint of chocolaty bubblegum peaking in late. Dry, walnuty earthiness transcends the bisquick aroma. Very telling, and thanks for sharing, Matt - I’m looking forward to cellaring the bottle you sent me, tpkenned (should it ever arrive!)

750 mL bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown with a hint of purple and a bubbly beige head. The aroma is banana peel, anise, some sweet fudge, mild tobacco, a few stray citrus notes. The flavor is very yeasty, with lots of sweet bread notes. Some banana, anise, and caramel follow, then some peanuts and wood. It finishes with a slightly tannic, fruity note. Not bad.

Murky mahogany with a huge khaki head. Good smell of figs, dark raisons and black pepper. Decent enough taste of caramel, apples cotton candy with some herbs and black pepper in there as well. Mar18/07

C&C 750, no date. Pours into my trusty Chimay glass a clear, brilliant mahogany red with a thin beige head. Nose is spicy dark fruits - fig and raisin primarily, with allspice and light anise, touched with roasty malt. Flavor is quite different - spice really takes over, a weird funky note creeps in, like bad nuts. The fruitiness comes through a bit as it warms up, the anise and allspice coming on strong. Strange, and not one I’ll be on the lookout for. Re-rate. Clear amber brown, small beige head. All of the above, less the bad nut flavor, this is delightful! Guess that first one was off... numbers based on second try.

Body is a foggy brown, thin off white head forms. Aroma is heavy brown sugar, and caramel, banana, peach, alcohol, and powdered sugar show up. Taste has a good amount of brown sugar and yeast initially, along with a light hop background that shows with caramel.
