Fizzy tan head the mostly dissipates. There is a big fruity nose with some raisin, fig and currant. There is a bit of alcohol and some yeasty spice as well. There are some big fruity fig and berry flavors and a lingering twang. It lingers quite a bit actually. Medium body with pleasing carbonation. I suppose this is a fine beer, but I am not feeling it as much as I had hoped. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Subtle aroma. Dark reddish amber with a nice tan head. Barrel aged character. Has a backbone. Pretty good. Not outstanding but has enough oomph to keep it interesting. jake65 (1725), Williston, North Dakota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 23, 2008 Bottle: Mild brown pour with a large beige head. Dark fruits and dusty malt are presented first, followed by Belgian spiciness. The flavor is a rather well blended combo of dark fruit, raison/figs, malts, Belgian spices, and a light amount of yeast. Very smooth and easy drinking. Thanks Jordan for bringing this back; another treat from LA. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 15, 2007 Bottle traded by Sean in person at the knoxville tasting, thanks BB. After drinking angels share and being disappointed, I figured I might as well try this one too, to see if it was good. I drank the Avant Garde or whatever a few months back, and remembered it being very good, so whatever, off goes the cork. Pours out a dark brown color with a thick head that tapers out around the glass into just a little ring. Heavy carbonation. Smells fruity, full of raisins, malts, some figs, really good smell. Smells like a bottle of beer straight from Belgium. Taste is sweet and thick, pretty high in carbonation, typical mouthfeel for a belgian style beer. You can really taste the sweet fruits and biscuit malt in this one. Yeasty and very smooth. Certainly a good experience, way better than the angels share. Thanks for this one Sean, now work on getting me the red barn ale! BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Pour is caramel brown with a tan head that fades immediately. Aroma of dried fruit (primarily raisins) and Belgian yeastiness. Taste is a nice solid maltiness with raisins throughout. As it warms, the Belgian yeast flavor takes center stage. Nice full body, and extremely well balanced.
