This beer was hazy, medium oxidized brown-gold colored with an average-sized, frtohy, beige, mostly lasting head. The aroma’s first puff to those nose of heavy with sweet pipe tobacco and dried fruit. It was malty with a light note of toasted grain; Hoppy with a moderate note of fresh herbs; Yeasty with a light note of dough; Intriguing miscellaneous notes of moderately weighty pipe tobacco that blooms and fades, a light note of dandelion juice an a moderate note of burbon. The flavor was lightly acidic, lightly bittersweet with a moderately bittersweet, longish, warm finish. Trace of astringency on the gums. The body was light, the texture was watery and the carbonation was lively. This one’s on the list, for sure. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 7, 2006 750ml bottle from the cooler at Papago: Pours to a mostly opaque dark copper/brown color, does show bits of amber when held to the light. The head is medium height, tan colored, and sticks nicely atop the beer. The aroma is dark fruits, raisin, plum, more prune/plum than raisin really, showing plenty of sugary/thick malt scents in the nose, some carrots, mild spice. Taste is sweet, but not overly so, showing a very malty sweetness as the groundwork - carrot, figs, raisins, light molasses-soaked bread - with some hints of light smoke, yeast, light spice, and some mild esters. Medium-full bodied, lively carbonated. This one is good but doesn’t quite live up to some of the better Belgian abbey dubbels out there. For some reason this tastes like a homebrewer’s attempt to clone a classic dubbel. It’s quite good, but somehow there’s something missing that I just can’t quite put my finger on. Perhaps it’s something in the body, too clean of a yeast character, or something else. It hits close to the mark and is well worth your time, but there are better out there. Nice lacing. Nose of dark fruits and sugar...along with belgian yeast. Flavor is brown sugared coffee with good malt balance. A bit ashy on the finish to me. Good beer. Pours a deep red honey brown with a model light-tan head. Spicy aroma with an unexpected air of smoke. Flavor is quite dry, hops coming on heavy and early to cut through the cobweb and spice, chocolate on the finish.
The Abbey Dubbel is not my favorite style, but even within this style this beer is falling short for me. It simply doesn’t come together with anything like the grace I’ve experienced with the other beers from this brewery. SDalkoholic (1196), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2006 750 mL bottle: Pours a dark nearly opaque leather colored brown. Head is a short lived fizz. The aroma is sweet and has a bubblegum smell with small reminders that spice and dried fruit are to also be given some attention. The flavor is tart and bitter and maybe is a little to fresh to be enoyed right off the shelf. Not much things to be said about the flavor except a small presence of yeast and dried fruit. Overall an average abbey dubbel that was only so so. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA

Sweet and fruity with figs, dates and plums in the nose and on the tongue. Nice alcohol presence, warming. Lightly bitter finish. Very nice abbey ale. FlssmrBrewAlum (1173), Lisle, Illinois, USA

750 ml bottle from Binnys shared with a friend. Pours a largely transparent dark copper, bubbly offwhite head that quickly dissipates to a small level, laces minimally. Aromas are pear, apple, caramel, and belgian yeast, lighter but fruity with a bit darker malts with nominal sweetness. Touch of brown sugar, cinnamon. Almost a bit soo sweet. Initial shows a bit bitter, Belgian malts mix with malty sweetness, raisin, bitterness. A bit one dimensional belgian-wise. Green apple, pear fruit come in with decent carbonation, moderate body, a bit of spice. Overall, a decent Belgian that throws heavy apple ane pear notes in the aftertaste.. Nothing special overall. Decent enough though.
