The first thing you notice about this beer is it has an odd appearance. Not so much deep and dark as it is murky. The aroma is ginger and fig. A little on the unusual bend. The taste though is heavy in the raisin puree but unfortunately unimpressive. Felt as though this beer promised a lot but fell short.

many dubbels develop flavors of dried grapes but this one really hits it close to home. sizzling mouthfeel i expect from any half-assed dubbel (this is, and then some) and plenty of fig and caremlized pit fruits. quite strong note of mollasses however. high carb tells me the yeast has been feasting but it seems as though it has a way to go in settling down the sweetness. when lost abbey shoots for specific styles like this they seem to do better then with general belgian ales. far from my favorite dubbel but still a very solid contender.

A- Pours a cloudy dark brown hue with amber highlights, small off-white head that is mostly diminishing, fair amount of lacing S- Delicious scents dominated by Belgian candy, dark fruit (raisins, plums, figs), and caramel malts, tones of pecans and banana, moderate alcohol presence T- Initial taste is met by all those dark fruits in with a bubbly carbonation, followed in mid-taste by that Belgian candy and well-balanced caramel malts, finishes with a moderate warming alcohol finish M- Medium/full bodied with prickly carbonation, nice creamy texture D- Moderate abv is definitely noticeable particularly with a warming alcohol finish, taste is big and sweet and complex, a very solid Belgian-style Dubbel

Pours darker than I was expecting with a reddish hue to it. Smell is dark fruits, but to my pleasant surprise there was a bit of sourness to it. This has a huge mouthfeel and is very pleasant. There are plenty of juicy, dark fruits in this offering. This may be my favorite Lost Abbey beer to date. You never notice the ABV. The complexity in this beer is very nice and everything works wonderul together. Very well done.

Aroma of vinous raisins, caramel malt, fairly spicy. Interesting. Dark amber in color with a thin head that fades. Interesting flavor that reminds me of bubblegum esters with a strong malty flavor and fairly spicy finish. Complex and interesting, but drinkable. Nice palate, dry finish. Wow. Thanks Facto!

750 ml bottle. Dark brown, small head. Nose of stale hops like an old worn out IPA. Taste is sweet, spicy, peppery, and old stale hops. The old hops linger well past the swallow. A bit watery and not much lingering on the end. Not their best effort or this is just an old, not well taken care of bottle.

Dark amber/brownish color. Very smooth with flavors of figs, raisins, caramel, cherries, and other items contributing to this very sweet ale. I would have preferred a little more balance in the sweet department, but I think that is what they were going for anyway. Does not compare to the trappist beers it was trying to imitate.

Bottle. Pours a raisiny brown with no head and no visible carbonation. Nose is porty, raisins and prunes. Flavor is a blend of dried fruit, with notes of licorice and root beer. This was a pretty decent sipper. Thick and viscous, with a light brown sugar sweetness and a malty backdrop.
