Vivid strawberry and cherry over maple, very aromatic. Dark brown, not much to be said of a head, but the plum hues make for an attractive sight anyway. Velvety smooth raisin, mouth filling yeast and after pouring the rest of the bottle, found it to be even more dense and smooth and rich. Lovely.

Draught at the brewery. Brown with a tan head. Fruity, almost tart berry aroma with some light caramel as well. Dry and vinous flavor witha light fruity tartness in the finish. Medium bodied with lots of carbonation. This was a big surprise, a lean, dry, tart dubbel. I could have drank a lot more of this.

On tap @ Backstreet Brewing, Vista. Nice nose of vinous raisins, caramel malt, good and spicy. Interesting. Dark amber in color with a thin head that fades. Interesting flavor that reminds me of bubblegum esters with a strong malty flavor and fairly spicy finish. Complex and interesting, but drinkable. Nice palate, quick dry finish.

Bottle into chalice. Pours cloudy dark red-brown, thin beige head. Nose is sweet - raisins come through big, lots of spicy brown sugar, hint of red grape acidity, with a round, bready yeast note in there also. Taste is fairly dry up front - big raisin and ripe fig note melding with some brown sugar sweetness that emerges just a bit later, and a bready, slightly spicy yeast note that gets more full as the initial dryness eases up a bit. Finish is clean, with the raisin and yeast notes lingering lightly on the exhale. Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, light and fluffy. Really delicious, yeast is at just the right level to mesh with the other flavors instead of dominating them. Perfectly executed.

Pours dark cloudy brown/orange. Herbal belgian yeast aroma. Spicy, herbal, peppery and complex flavor. Flavor also has hints of figs and plums. Very good abbey dubbel!

’08 bottle. Pours reddish/brown, thick off white head. Aroma loaded with raisins, some caramel malts toffee like, grainy with touch of yeast. Flavor, lots of thick fruit palate, raisins, berries, some yeast. Contact of fruits is followed by notes of caramel malts, hints of chocolate and light fruit sourness. Pleasantly surprised with this one.

The beer pours from the 750ml cork and caged bottle a rather hazy brownish red with a large creamy light tan head that fades away leaving a velum like coating of lace. Nose is rich in sweet malt, fruit aromas; I’d say cherries with a bit of raisins. Start is fruity sweet; the malt presence makes the top feel moderate, touch of alcohol bitterness at the back. Finish has a spiny acidity, alcohol warms the belly, and hops provide some spiciness, dry and long lasting aftertaste, quite a nice drinking beer.

Slightly metallic aroma, but mostly caramel and fruit. Nice translucent orangy brown color with little head. Starts with spicy fruit, gets a hit of carbonation and seems to finish with a bit of hop and raisiny fruit. Got to love it. Fruits are less than plummy, and the candy component is well under control. Recommended.
