Appearance is ruby in color with a thin halo of bubbles that persists for longer than a minute. Not the billowy foam I’d find on most dubbels.
Flavor is rich, roasty, bready, caramel, raisins, figs, liquorice, spicy & malt focused. Back end spicy noble hop flavor can be found, but is really subtle. Sweetness/bitterness is well balanced. Overall malt focused with a nice estery/phenolic balance found through a great fermentation.
Mouthfeel is peppery with medium-high carbonation. Mild carbonic bite and a clean, dry finish.
Overall, this is really impressive and I will drink it again and again. It really hits the marks for a Beglain style Dubbel.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2006 Translucent, semi-hazed and cherry-sapphire in color with a doily wrung for the head. Aroma’s rocking – chocolate caramel cubes, brown sugar avec frying bananas, nutmeg, ginger, caramelized chamomile and a hint of alcohol presence. Dry, sugary flavor blast causes cavities to accrue in the more vulnerable regions of the palate. Ginger and banana crème seep into honeyed grahams. Pears get caramelized with anisette and cocoa powder, thrown in for extra substance. Very well balanced, with a hint of chocolaty bubblegum peaking in late. Dry, walnuty earthiness transcends the bisquick aroma. Very telling, and thanks for sharing, Matt - I’m looking forward to cellaring the bottle you sent me, tpkenned (should it ever arrive!) | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2006 Very light feel on the mouth. I felt there was a lot of fruit flavor, specifically banana. The malt and hop balanced very nicely. Extremely delicious and well done beer. Schultsc (486), Henderson, Nevada, USA

Classic belgian aroms along with dried fruits, malt sweetness, and a touch of roast. The flavor is slighly sweet of molasses with dates, dried figs, and prunes. Very subdued and not over the top at all which really lets all of the subtle flavors shine through. This benefits the body as well--which is in supreme balance. This beer is rich, flavorful, and complex without hitting you over the head and knocking you out like so many Belgian-style beer can. This is fine "old world" beer from their new brewery. shp555 (1690), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 12, 2008 750ml bottle. Smelled mostly of clove, but there were also whiffs of pear and cola/sassafras. Poured a clear ruddy brown color. The head was off white and reduced relatively quickly to a thin ring. Dry up front with some sugars emerging toward the end. Carbonation was somewhere near the middle of the spectrum. The flavor was spicy and earthy with a distinct clove note. Toasted bread and dark fruit were also present and a hint of sassafras came out at the end. Yum. ogglethorp (890), Ohio, USA
