May 24, 2008 Bottle @ thewolf-and-his-flock-of-sheep tasting session. Hazy orange brown color, medium brownish head. Aroma is slight sugary, quite fruity, raisins. Very malty taste, sugary sweet. Again these kind of brews tend towards barley wines instead of abbey dubbels.

Dec 22, 2006 Bottle from BevMo. Pours a very deep dark ruby color. Has a sizable tan head. Slightly sweet yeasty aromas, along with some earthy/dusty notes. Very rich dark fruit flavors right up front. A fair amount of yeastiness. Really smooth, flavorful dubbel. More earthy and less sweet than most dubbels I’ve tried.

On tap@O’Brien’s: The color of prune juice with a purple tinge and just a wisp of foam that fades to a halo. Aroma is red wine and a wiff of banana. Flavor has a light sweet start with some spice and yeast, some port a hint of bubble gum and banana with a tangy dry finish. Light to medium bodied and smooth with lively carbonation.

Growler from the brewery: Prune juice color with just a wisp of foam. Aroma is rich dark fruit. Flavor follows aroma with raisin and prune some light spice with a tangy semi-dry finish. Medium body is smooth with lively carbonation.

Sep 22, 2008 Gentle, hazy chestnut brown with ring of head. Easy malting with a yeasty-sourness more reminiscent of a sour-brown ale piqued by notes of figs. Body is a flavorful medley of figs, caramel malts and some mild sour-yeasty notes. An excellent if perplexing drinking experience. Abbey Dubbel meets Flanders sour-brown and with rousing success.

The nose and aroma are a mix of dates, candy sugar and banana. Pretty smooth to drink.

Feb 28, 2007 Pour is dark red and with good head. Well carbonated. Muted fruity aroma. Smooth well developed flavor and the body is just about right if a bit over-carbonated. Quality dubbel.

May 14, 2007 Shared by BBB63 before ’07 Dark Lord Day. Murky amber color with a foamy cream colored head. Dark sugar and ripe pit fruit nose. Flavors of plums, raisens, brown sugar, and some Belgian candi sugar. Nice beer.

May 6, 2007 Bottle brought back from California by McBeer and shared during Dark Lord Day 2007. Subtle aroma. Dark reddish amber with a nice tan head. Barrel aged character. Has a backbone. Pretty good. Not outstanding but has enough oomph to keep it interesting.
