Sweet and fairly soft with medium body. Mild and spritzy, fruity and lightlyestery. So melon and metal shows up as well. Stays shy of being overpowering and cloying, and is instead mild and laid back. Somehow the flavour doesn’t really cover the whole mouth as in the best Belgian ales. hopscotch (5549), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 5, 2009 Bottle... Murky burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Earthy, fruity, tangy aroma – notes of wood, chocolate, dark fruits and lactic acid. Medium-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and dancing carbonation. The flavor of this one is all about the acidity. Tart and tangy with a chocolaty undertone. Mild sweetness. A Flanders dubbel? Crisp, tangy, lightly dry finish. Kudos to giarcsr for shipping this bottle to Florida! crazyvin (1255), New York, USA

Pleasant albeit unremarkable brown Belgian.
I like:
The bold maltiness of a scotch ale with strong caramel emphasis, but also toasty, spicy and highly fruity nuances. Alcohol sensation is never too much. Almost roasty malt notes manages to maintain the sweetness level under watch. Authentic mouthfeel if a bit thick.
I dislike:
I find it hard to recommend changes on dubbels, I find it hard to find one I feel deserves a 4.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 4, 2007 Mike oberdorf brought this home. I wish I remembered to rate it earlier. I remember it being ok but nothing spectacular. In fact when I compare it to other dubbels like the Bell’s or Westmalle, it pales. However it was a nice treat. Light flavor, sort of sweet and a little spicy, and not as robust as the aforementioned beers. skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA

Lucious pour with rich head. Aroma of roasted grains and butter. The flavor is mosty dark chocolate and pepper - with a dry and short finish. Most similar to Westmalle. marcus (1904), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2007 This dark brown ale poured with a thin off-white head and a sweet malty aroma. There is a candy and raisin flavor typical to the trappist dubbel-style ales, although there is not the degree of complexity the monks have developed over the years. It’s pleasantly carbonated with a nice body. Overall, a pretty good approximation of a trappist ale. SDalkoholic (1198), Chula Vista, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2006 750 mL bottle: Pours a dark nearly opaque leather colored brown. Head is a short lived fizz. The aroma is sweet and has a bubblegum smell with small reminders that spice and dried fruit are to also be given some attention. The flavor is tart and bitter and maybe is a little to fresh to be enoyed right off the shelf. Not much things to be said about the flavor except a small presence of yeast and dried fruit. Overall an average abbey dubbel that was only so so.
