Jul 15, 2007 A 22-oz bottle courtesy of badgerben and shared with Friday beer tasting group. Pours a dark ruby brown color brew with a thick off-white head that has good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate malt, sweet raisins, candi sugar, figs and prunes. Taste is lightly carbonated, medium to full bodied, with flavors of figs, dark pitted fruit and dates. Finish is smooth, slightly dry with a spicy banana aftertaste.

Jul 21, 2009 bottle, pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Carmel malt, some booze, spicy aroma. Sweet toasted malt, caramel, and booze. Lovely yeast ester finish. Great brew.

Apr 18, 2008 Drunk from a wine glass. Cloudy. Orange-brown at base, transitioning to auburn, then deep red, with an off-white head. Intense, fig, plum, raisin and chocolate aromas, with hints of honey and bready malt. Strong malty flavor, with a warming alcohol finish and deliciously sweet hints of raisin, cinnamon, nutmeg, caramel and even some rye-ish spiciness. A very unique take on one of my favorite styles.

Sep 22, 2007 Pours a deep mohagony, aroma of dried fruits and molasses. Flavor is complex with more of the aroma, along with a sharp carbonation. Letting it warm a few minutes, sugars and fruits are stronger with a nice clean finish. Really good beer.

Feb 26, 2008 750 ml bottle, very ugly looking beer that I thought was not going to be very good but quite the opposite, fluffy head that recedes to a light brown ring, candied sugar and yeasty fruit yield an ephemeral essence, excellent with a Cohiba piramide

Nov 28, 2007 From the bottle, pours dark ruby with mahogany tones and a small khaki head. Rich sweet nose of chocolate covered raisin, cherry, port, and vanilla. Flavor is sweet, but never cloying due to the higher carbonation in the finish, palate remains crisp and light, getting away from the syrupy body that could have been. The depth really shows in the flavor, picking up the the raisin and almost prune sweet flavors up front, followed by chocolate, vanilla, and faint dark rum quality. This beer just keeps getting better as it warms, more fruit and subtle spices show. Very enjoyable beer.
