Commercial Description:
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

750ml carefully pours a hazy medium dark lemon color with little to no head. Thin to medium light texture, I want to say frothy but it’s a bit too thin. Honey, red apple skins, light spiciness, light yeast character. Subtle dry finish. Light spiced cracker note... overall an interesting beer, has a nice traditional Belgian saison yeast character (quiet, soft yeast), but overall it’s somewhat of a letdown.

Wheaty aroma. Clean. Reminds me of a hefewiezen. Enjoyable, but doesn’t really make me think of a saison.

Bottle from Sean. Thanks Pile driver. Nice pour, light yellow color with a white head on it. Smell is fruity with an added grape smell, some hops, malts, some sour funkiness.. Taste is sweet and refreshing. Some grape flavors come through here as well. It has a sour quality that isnt bad and somewhat adds to the beer. Lively carbonation. A beer I could drink year round. Very good stuff actually.

750ml 2008 bottle, cloudy honey gold hue, with a white head, leaving laces, yeasty, acidic, fruity, light wet pale malt nose, with a hint of funkiness, some ripe apple, lemon, pear aceents, with a spicy herbal lavender, coriander note, with some floral hop, cloverleaf aromas follow through on e medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, spicy, peachy character, with a nice flowery hop citrusy accent of lemon zest, with some lavender herbal tea notes with some honeyed wheat, pale malts, leading towards a dry, hoppy, leafy bitterness finish.

Bottle shared by thickfreakness while enjoying the cinematic wonder that is ’’Love Guru’’. Thanks Charles! Pours a glowing light orange color with huge white head and a lot of lacing. Smell is lightly citrusy, spiced, and wheaty. Taste is orange rind, lightly bitter and hoppy for a saison, and a smooth body and soft carbonation. A bit funky and dusty, and pretty nice. I enjoyed this one and it was one of the better saisons to me.
