Commercial Description:
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

Pours out a slightly cloudy golden/straw color with a white fluffy head. Aroma is of citrus, corriander and some light fruity/yeasty notes. Taste is complex with a nice mouthfeel. Ginger, corriander, yeast, some citrus notes and light earthy fruity notes, bready notes, also some funk in there too. Lots going on in the flavor while still maintaining a rather light body. Well done.

75oml bottle. Multiple 08 samples. Pours a clear, bright gold with a frothy bright white head leaving an ample amount of lace. Lots of spicy yeast esters. Pepper, hay, bready malt. Some lighter fruit notes as well: apricot skin and white grape juice. Very nice saison aromas. Flavor is mostly bone dry. Hay and cut grass. Lots of cracker and bread dough for the malt profile. Some spice... white pepper. Citrus rind. Medium to full bodied with snappy carbonation and a zesty finish. Thanks Zac for the most recent sample!

(bottle, thanks hellomynameis!) Pours light gold with a sudsy white head. Very spicy aroma of ginger, coriander, light orange peel, light funk, and some bready yeast. The taste was just as good with flavors of ginger, a faint sweetness, light orange peel, which gives way to a nice dry cracker finish. This is really good, but I like the Red Barn just a bit more.

Thanks to BeerHawk for sharing this one at decaturstevo’s 2008 Zapit Tasing Tasting. Hazy yellow with a lasting white head. Funky Belgian aroma . Sweet malts, flowery hops. The flavor is much what you expect from the aroma. Sweet, spritzy and a dry finish.

very yeasty aroma with citrus and banana notes. had a thin white head that didn’t retain well. somewhat heavy or thick mouthfeel with noticeable orange flavor but lacking the spiciness or pepper of most saisons. very tangy finish reminded me more of a wheat beer...probably would enjoy this one more if it was aged for a year or more...

Corked bottle and served in Duvel snifter: Clean initial golden hue with a big fluffy head and outstanding rings of lacework upon the glassware. The nose is mostly classically trained, lots of yeasty and earthy driven esters. Some ginger, white pepper, wintergreen, bready malts and a hint of oak found running about. The taste is quire refreshing and a "hats off" to the classics of the olden lands. Pale malt and yeast flavors abound throughout the palate. Just a hint of orangey twang towards the finish. The mouth feel is quite lively without becoming over carbonated. Among the best of the genre brewed within the boundaries of the United States. Mikey Likey!

Bottle: Poured a medium yellow color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma consists of light funky yeast with a bready malt backbone. Taste is a mix between some a lightly sweet Belgian malt backbone with some slightly funky yeast notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no noticeable alcohol. Good but lacking some ester and character to bring this one to the next level.
