Commercial Description:
Ne Goeien is Flemish for "A Good One." We’d like to think this beer is exactly that. When we invited Hildegard Van Ostaden from Urthel to come brew with us at Port Brewing, we hoped the collaboration of our brewers and her passion for brewing would result in one fine beer. A simple Saison styled beer with firm bitterness is all she requested. From the beginning, it was easy to imagine this beer as Ne Goeien all the way.

Corked bottle and served in Duvel snifter: Clean initial golden hue with a big fluffy head and outstanding rings of lacework upon the glassware. The nose is mostly classically trained, lots of yeasty and earthy driven esters. Some ginger, white pepper, wintergreen, bready malts and a hint of oak found running about. The taste is quire refreshing and a "hats off" to the classics of the olden lands. Pale malt and yeast flavors abound throughout the palate. Just a hint of orangey twang towards the finish. The mouth feel is quite lively without becoming over carbonated. Among the best of the genre brewed within the boundaries of the United States. Mikey Likey!

Bottle: Poured a medium yellow color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma consists of light funky yeast with a bready malt backbone. Taste is a mix between some a lightly sweet Belgian malt backbone with some slightly funky yeast notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no noticeable alcohol. Good but lacking some ester and character to bring this one to the next level.

Bottle. Pours a brilliant, bright hazy straw with a nice white head that has stuck around nicely and laced. Flowery aroma, earthy, lemon citrus. Flavor is citric and sweet with a nice yeastiness. A very well done saison, very quenching and tasty.

Bottle thanks to Ryan. Bright hazy golden pour with big pillowy white head and nice lacing. Earthy bitter grainy yeasty banana nose. Fresh hay. Bitter hops. Bit of lemon. Light palate. Super dry finish. Technically not an American saison, perhaps, but probably the best I have had that was brewed in the U.S.

Bottle. Cloudy yellow with some orange tinges; nice white head. Nice, slightly sweet malt, banana, and light spice aroma. Flavor is the same, sweet bananas, light spices, with some citric / lemony earthiness creeping in as well. Some light resinous hops in the finish. Really nice mouthfeel, soft and full.Nice beer.

Bottle. Poured a hazy pale with creamy off-white head that left good lacing. Aromas of clove, fruits, and wheat background. The flavor is much the same with hops and some light earthiness also found. Light body, mild bitterness throughout.
