I like the hints of lemon, ginger, and sweat in aroma. The flavor is sweet, slightly sour and bitter with some spiciness and root-like flavor similar to what is typically found in a Fantome beer. Thave color is cloudy gold with a densely frothy beige head. There is a medium, sparking level of carbonation that works well for the style. Overall this beer is quite complex and intersting/hard to describe. I highly recommend it though!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 1, 2009 The beer poured a cloudy orange color with a thick, fluffy white head. The nose of the beer is citrusy (lemon, orange) and has some spice nuances also. The taste is a bit earthy and also has nice touches of the citrus and spice, maybe some corriander. This beer is very smooth and refreshing and makes for a very drinkable beer. JohnnyJ (1343), Carlsbad, California, USA

Orange peel, banana, lemon, pepper, honey, spice, and finish with a musty hop/funk flavor. I like it a lot. arrogantb (707), Denver, Colorado, USA

This pours a beautiful golden orange with a head that quickly subsided into a ring of white bubbles. The aroma is thick with spice but I can’t tell you what kind. There is also some orange peel type smell. The flavor has a faint candy quality and some other flavors I can’t put my finger on. There seems to a be a hop bitterness and this definitely has a rustic, farmhouse feel to it.

Perfumed gently spicy aroma with orange, coriander, ginger, vanilla and honey. The flavor is fairly spicy with pepper, clove, coriander, orange, vanilla, grapefruit, lemon and meat broth. Initially sweetish but dryes up to spicy finish. Starts to taste too spicy after a while. hellbilly (1532), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

odd unexpected aroma of smoke... almost like a piece of charred oak with a wedge of lemon on it... i will assume that this is the savory yeast note that i get in belgian styles sometimes since it seems to dissipate as the brew warms... smells of flowers, yeast, lemon, dusty straw and something earthy and spicy.
the flavor shares the same characteristics... lots of savory yeast (almost bacon-y) with lemon skins and a touch of sourness, straw, dusty pale malt, grass/hay, a bit of woody/earthy funk and a very dry herbaceous finish. it turns rather quickly to mild and malty to to dry and almost parchingly bitter.
medium-ish body has some heft to it. the carbonation is soft and sudsy which builds up to get really creamy on the tongue.
i’ll have to give this another try from a bottle to figure out the savory smoky element...7/4/7/4/15/3.7 lemasney (398), Trenton, New Jersey, USA

Purchased at: Newportville Inn, Bristol, PA for $8.50
Aroma: peaches, fruit, hayfield, dirt, dust. Inviting, flowery aroma.
Visuals: Beautiful packaging, though I feel similarly about religious iconography on my beer as I do about fish. I’d rather not see it right there, in particular. Hazy golden sunset, with a bright white cloud of a head. Lace is intricate.
Taste: A very nicely done saison — tea, some spice, cloves, but what really sets this apart is the rather hoppy finish and depth. Some corn and wheat, but heavier than most of the saisons I’ve tried, which is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.
Palate: Beginning is sweet and malty, middle is darker, and dries quickly, with a slightly bitter finish that lasts for about half a minute. A very nice example.
Overall: This was my first ever Lost Abbey brew, but it certainly won’t be my last. If they can make a very enjoyable saison, I believe they can do just about anything.
