Commercial Description:
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

750ml. Pours a cloudy yellow with a large foamy white head that lasts. Very mild aromas of spice, yeast and a bit of citrus. Flavor is a funky forward brew with yeast and some bitterness. I didnt like this much at first but it has warmed up to me. pun intended.

Bottle. Low and quickly disappearing white head. Hazy dark yellow thick looking body. Acidic lemon oranges aroma. No hops grapefruit sour acfidic flavor. Low carbonation. Long bitter aftertaste. Would have expected more fruityness and that it was sweeter than was actually the case.

Striking aroma of peppery spice from over a foot away. My nose into the glass of this foggy yellow brew reveals creamy vanilla along with orange peel and pure temptation. Metallicy orange and spicy-oily on the tongue with some fair carbonation and some green hop alongside. Wouldn’t call it a classic, but it sure fits the Saison category nicely. Very nice.

Clear golden body with a thin, quickly diminishing white head. The aroma is sweet and spicy. Orange, honey, coriander, grains of paradise, light wheat and a faint hint of warming licorice. The body is light and fairly lacking in carbonation, not the most interesting body ever. The flavor, like the nose, is sweet and spicy. The sweet malt and residual sugars blend fairly well. The finish had a nice blended bitterness of high spice levels and piny hops. Not my favorite Lost Abbey offering, but not a bad beer. It is probably better suited to warmer weather.

Bottle thanks to wetherel. Clear straw orange color with a fluffy white head and lots of visible carbonation. Very musty, grassy, spicy aroma with hints of orange peel. Flavor is lemony tart citrus zest, then grassy hay, wildflowers and musty barnyard tastes. Finishes pretty spicy and Belgian hop bitter.
