Commercial Description:
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

Dirty blond color with nice head and lacing. Aroma of spice and fruit. Flavor was sweet with fruit, honey and some spice (maybe the Grains of Paradise or the Ginger) that I just didn’t like with the fruity flavor at all. Feel free to stone me if you will, but I don’t like it, really.

bottle. Clear bright yellow straw color. VERY impressive head- big but not a foam over, and tons of staying power and lace. Aromas of some dull barnyard funk and chunky grainy sweetness. Flavors of mellow spice and fruit. The ginger and grains of paradise come through without dominating the brew. Tart lemon orange flavor without the hop bite. Minimal bitterness. Some yeasty sharpness. Palate is a bit of a battle between crisp dryness and some oily sticky notes. Overall a very enjoyable brew.

750 cork and cage. Golden pour with a fine white head. Spiced and rather sweet aroma - the black pepper and ginger come through nicely. Had a degree of complexity beyond your average saison. Moderately sweet flavor with a strange bitterness in the finish. Like an overcooked pithiness. Clearly well brewed, but left something to be desired.

75cl bottle. Clear deep gold-orange color with a big wispy and lacy head. Head sustains almost to the bottom. Potent and sweet aroma with nectar, orange marmalade, leather, and black pepper. Flavor is spicy, with ground pepper and zesty, earthy hops. Starts with a little citric sweetness, and finishes quite dry, with alcohol stripping the tongue along with a light citric astringency. Spicy pepper lingers in the back of your mouth. Medium-light body with smooth but tenacious carbonation. The dryness and spice makes it quite refreshing, but there is a tad too much pepper in the finish. Still quite good, but it would be one of my top beers if they toned this down a little.

Sampled at the Lost Abbey beer pairing dinner with Tomme Arthur event at Chandler Whole Foods. Pours a cloudy orange with off-white head. Nose is pears, Belgian yeast and spices. Palate is coriander, cloves, yeast, ginger and lots of pepper with a nice dry finish. Medium mouth feel. Nice Belgian that went decent with the spicy salad it was paired with.
