Commercial Description:
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

750ml bottle. Poured a clear light orange color. Head was thick, rocky, and off white with good retention, but only a bit of lacing. The aroma was of subdued orange, yeasty bread dough, and mixed spices, none of which my nose accurately identified prospectively. Nice smell, though. Very attractive. Spicy, effervescent, and dry on the tongue. Delicious spices (again, none that I was good enough to pick out specifically without help form the label), orange, and bread dough graced the flavor. Very good beer. I’d happily drink this any day.

Doughy yeast aroma with some grassy and herbal hops apparent. Opaque yellow-blonde body is topped by a low white fine bubbled head that leaves some lace. Yeasty character in the flavour also with moderate bitterness that balances the sweet malts. Spices and grassy hop flavours in the aftertaste. Medium body with very strong carbonation. It almost seems like this fermented out far drier than intended. Sampled at Oakes’ Xmas tasting 2007.

Pours a golden orange with a thin head. Nice aroma of clove, other spices, and some orange. Nice spicy flavor, it was an enjoyable beer. I was glad to be able to taste so many Lost Abbey beers on my trip to San Diego.

Bottle. pours a nice golden yelloy. Nice spicey herbal nose, peppar, yeast and floral hops. Decent mouthfeel with a good carbonation. Good session beer that would be great during the summer. I prefer the old SPF 45.

On tap at Stone. Pours light orange with a lasting foamy head. Aroma is citrus, spice, and yeast. Tastes sour and refreshing with good carb. Aftertaste is nice, but has a slighty stale, bitter finish.
