Commercial Description:
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

Bottle pours gold with a thin white head. Aroma is faint, but shows notes of banana, ginger, and grains of paradise. Flavor is sweet malt, apple, pear, and trace amount of black pepper. Good integration, but somehow lacks interest. I would much rather drink carnevale, but something tells me this would pair better with a meal.

Hazy, pale gold with fair, creamy white head / Sour nose of citrus, spice, and brett / Light to medium body, moderately sour, with good balance of malt and hops on the dry, bitter finish / Elegant flavors of lemon, orange, banana, coriander, hay, ginger, black pepper, oak, and brett / Excellent.

With a dense, white crown and an opaque, golden body this saison looks impressive in a tulip. Having been cellared for 6 months, the aroma still explodes with freshness -sour apple, banana, light pepper and ginger, hints of apricot. Taste is oh-so-balanced subacid fruits, fresh apricot and banana, sour yeast, refreshing and subtly spicy and pairs well with dinner of ancient grains salad and stuffed chicken breast. Mouthfeel was medium, smooth and starchy with lively but well integrated carbonation. I really enjoyed this.

660ml bottle (Porvoo BF2009)
Pale, persistent head. Vanilla aroma, light banana. Pleasant carbonation, cuts through the glue well, which is quite restrained. Fresh crisp hops, that and alcohol in the front of the taste. Dull and chemical. An insult to real farmhouse beers.

750 ml bottle from Binnys (Orland Park, IL). Pours a nice very hazy golden pour with decent whitish head that laces well. Aromas are a bit fruity, a bit wild with a touch of apricot, and a good dose of spice, lemon, grains of paradise. A touch of sweet malts. Initial is a bit funky, with a good fruity dose behind it with some pear and apple. A good fruity, malty, brew with a citrusy orange and spicy prominence. This is fairly good brew.
