Commercial Description:
This Farmhouse Ale traces its roots to the small rustic breweries of Southern Belgium. The word Saison comes to us from the French language and it means Season. Lightly spiced with Organic Ginger, Orange Peels, Black Pepper and Grains of Paradise, this brew promises to quench your thirst on the hottest Southern California days or wherever your travels may take you. Available in 750 ml bottles and on draft at select inspired locations.

Editor's note. This is a new incarnation of SPF 45, previously brewed at Pizza Port Solana Beach

750ml bottle from MrBendo. Aroma: Bready malt, strong orange zest and coriander/pepper. Some floral notes as it warms. Nice saison yeastiness. Appearance: Light orange in color and hazy. Off-white head was huge and creamy with great retention. Great lacing. Flavor: Similar to nose. Bready malt; floral and lemon/orange zest, coriander and pepper. Refreshingly bitter with a dry finish. Palate: Medium body. Medium-high carbonation. Overall: A great drink for the summertime. Flavorful and thirst quenching. Great beer.

On tap. Pours amber with a nice haed. Aroma of spiced clove? Taste of orange, ginger, and clove. Nice.

Bottle at Mondiale ’07 Looks very much like a saison. Nice orange color with LOADS of carbonation bubbles assaulting the beer. Aroma is quite peppery, spicy, and a nice tart sourness to it. Flavour is much of the same, and the pepper really comes through, very nice saison.

750ml corked bottle. Pours a cloudy yellow with a huge white head and monstrous lace. Looks saisony. Obnoxious bubbles streaming from the bottom of the glass. Beautiful saison smell: vanilla, spices, pepper, slightly funky, tart and sweet. Taste is quite peppery and citrusy. Zingy(?) but smooth. Quite easy to drink and nicely balanced. I see they use black pepper in this. That is very apparent. Don’t know if it can hold up the best Belgians in the style but definitely the best American Saison I’ve had.

Bu au Mondial 07. Blonde peu brumeuse, moyen collet. Arome d’herbe malté agréable. Goûtgoût d’herbe végétale malté intéressant, avec un certain zeste fruité délicieux.

750ml - thanks Foolish_Mortal - Aroma of bready yeast, orange zest, spicy incense like aroma of ginger and pepper. Pours transparent gold with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is snappy spice and tart citrus. Yeasty finish smooths it out. Palate is crisp and tart. Before I read the description, I was going to say that this was a tame version of SPF45, interesting. A good American saison but I perfer the old world funk to the intense spice.

Pours a hazy orange almost gold look with a bubbly white head that didnt last. Smells of oranges, hops, spice, lemons, and sweet light malt. Alot going on. Taste was mostly sweet malt with hints of citrus flavors, hops, and spice. Very refreshing.
